Kia SP2i To Get All-New 1.5L Engines, Likely To Be Priced From 9.49 Lakh

Kia Motors India has recently announced to offer the Kia SP2i SUV with a new 1.5l engines and scheduled its launch in the middle of 2019.

The Indian subsidiary of the South Korean carmaker, Kia Motors India had officially started the trial production for the SP2i. The premium compact SUV was produced at the Anantapur factory in Andhra Pradesh, at the end of last month. The 536 acres plant has set up the production capacity of three lakh units per annum.

Being showcased the first time at the 2018 Auto Expo over a year ago, the SP concept based car model will come with a host of features. The pre-production prototype has also been revealed to the media which proves the model’s resemblances with the concept.

The Kia SP2i was produced at the Anantapur factory last month

In terms of the new features, the Kia SP2i comes with

Slim LED headlights
Signature Tiger Nose grille
Sporty bumper with round shaped fog lights
ORVMs with integrated turn signals
17-inch machine cut alloy wheels
Disc brake on all four wheels
Tall pillars
Compact rear end with horizontal LED tail lights

There is a long list of features available

As for the powertrain, the Kia SP2i engine was derived from new 1.5-litre petrol and diesel powertrains. The two engines options will be BSVI ready for the eventual switch which will be taken into effect from April 2020. Both engines will be mated to either a manual gearbox as standard or automatic transmission as optional.

In a move to position the car aggressive in the segment in the Indian market, Kia likely to set the prices for the car ranging from Rs. 9.49 lakh to Rs. 14 lakh (ex-showroom). Obtaining the first segment feature like full digital instrument cluster earmarked, the upcoming SUV will have to be pitted against the likes of Nissan Kicks, Hyundai Creta, and Tata Harrier
