Tata Motors has introduced the performance-oriented version of their popular cars – the Tiago and the Tigor recently. On this review, we will explore what is offered on the Tiago JTP and how it performs.

Tata Tiago JTP and Tata Tigor JTP aren’t the first performance car that Tata Motor has introduced. In fact, we have seen the concept of Nexon JTP before. The two new cars are the result of the collaboration between Tata Motors and Jayem Automotives. It is no surprise that the JTP version will be absolutely performance-tuned models as Jayem Automotives is famous for making racy cars. These special performance versions of the ongoing model are the work committed by Jyem and produced in Tata’s infrastructure.

To fit with the performance title, the Tiago is revised cosmetically and mechanically to make the new Tiago JTP version. And the result is incredible. Here are the details about this car and our first drive review.

1. Tata Tiago Exterior

Compared to the ongoing Tata Tiago, the JTP has a lower ride height but it stands in larger wheels of 15 inches. The twists in the dimension work well for a sportier look and enthusiastic performance.

On the front profile, the JTP is given a larger air dam and a revised bumper. The grille, instead of the old hexagonal details like in the normal version, will get honeycomb mesh. As the result, it will look a tad more premium and completely fit with the look of a true fast-running car. What’s more, it also gets a fender vent on the bonnet, not only to make it look sports car-like but it is indeed usable.

The rear and the side of the Tiago JTP is also sportier than the normal version

To the side, the JTP sports a set of larger diamond cut alloy wheels. Besides, the newly-added side skirt, contrast roofline and ORVM definitely spread the sporty vibe. The colour options are also sportiness-sparking, too. Customers could pick either red-black or white-black. What about the rear side? The rear is given some minor tweaks, for example, the new fender vent and dual exhaust pipes will be the last touches of the exterior growth into a performance car.

2. Tata Tiago Interior: What is inside?

Inside the car, it will also cosmetically altered from the ongoing Tiago. Look obviously sportier. It remains the majority of the design and structure but added with some cool touches like red stitching on the seat and steering leather, or the red ring on the air vent. Admittedly, the black and red combination just makes the interior unmistakeably sporty.

Apart from that, everything stays the same. You will still get an ample of room in the rear seats as well as a roomier boot space. However, it could do better with more thoughtful storage space inside the cabin as well as adjustable headrests for the rear seats.

In terms of the infotainment system, you will get a well-functioning 5-inch touchscreen unit along with an 8-speaker sound system. Besides, it also comes with dual airbags, ABSs, rear parking sensor, control-mounted steering.

3. Tata Tiago Performance

It will not a be successful transformation without the mechanical work. On this part, the Tiago JTP is most actively-reworked. First, it will replace the standard 1.2-litre petrol engine on the Tiago with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. And the result is the hike in power output. This unit will release 114bhp of power and 150nm of torque at best. The standard transmission option is the tuned 5-speed manual gearbox with a revised ratio contributing to a sharper acceleration.

The reworked engine is able to pull out more power

The JTP comes with multi driving modes. On the Sports modes, you will meet up with more fun once you go beyond 2,500rpm. It will not live up to your fantasy of supercars but it will make a more exciting experience than the average hatchbacks. It could do the 0-100kph sprint in 10.38 seconds, and a huge step from the normal Tiago.

The gearbox offers a butter smooth shifting. And don’t forget the enthusiast grunt of the engine, which will surely excite the driver's mood for a fast driving.

The winding road is the place where the JTP could show off the best of its performance nature. But when driving in the normal city driving, the Tiago JTP will give you a sprightly drive. But the power delivery is jarring at low speed, which could also be seen in the petrol Nexon.

The new 185/60 R15 tyres are one main factor contributing to the altered dynamics of the JTP, along with the lowered springs and optimized dampers. All of which create a profound change in the way it drives and balance between the sportiness and riding comfort.

On the steering, the JTP’s unit weight ups fairly engine, giving a responsive feedback. The brake is sharp and the stopping power is strong too. and hold a decent grip.

4.Tata Tiago Price

Tata Tiago JTP is priced at Rs 6.39 lakh, which is 1.2 lakh higher than the Tiago’s standard petrol trim. Considering all package that you will get with the JTP, it will come as cross as a reasonable deal. For the car enthusiasts, it is a true deal to get a good feel behind the steering wheel.
