2019 Hyundai Elantra facelift revealed with advanced safety tech

Hyundai has updated a dramatic mid-life facelift for the Hyundai Elantra 2019 with a sportier look and advanced safety systems.

Albeit making its debut in the sedan tough segment two years ago, the Hyundai Elantra stand still to prove its position in the competition even with the more established rivals. Thereby, it emerges to be a solid choice for the customers.

Evidently, Hyundai is the best-selling car in Korea market and is currently the 7th best-selling sedan in the US. To keep it competitive, Hyundai has recently globally revealed the 2019 Hyundai Elantra facelift with the comprehensive exterior changes. The reveal took place at the media drive of the new Hyundai Santa Fe in Utah for the International media on Tuesday evening.

Exterior Refreshed

Regard of the exterior, as the side profile, the Elantra facelift offers new styling updates with 

  • Reshaped headlamps with LED DRLs 

  • Revised grille

  • More muscular-looking bonnet

  • Triangular fog lamps and new-design

  • Larger alloy wheels (from 16-inches to 18-inches)

In general, these front fascia refresh added a dash of sportiness to the Hyundai Elantra looks. As for the rear side, the refreshed sedan gets a new bumper with housings for the reversing lights and rear fog lamps and tapering tail-lamps that extend further on to the boot.

The rear look also gets several changes

The license plate has also moved from the boot to the rear bumper. The overall styling, especially at the front, seems to be reminiscent of the new Sonata.  

Interior Updated

On the technology side, the new Elantra is now available with the wireless charging. In terms of safety kit, the new Elantra gets active safety features such as 

  • Blind-spot monitoring system 

  • Forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking 

  • Lane departure warning with active lane control

  • Rearview camera with a cross-traffic alert system

The new optional 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is a highlight of the car with smartphone compatibility that can get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard on higher-spec trims. The lower variants still remain the previously 7.0-inch unit.

Performance Enhanced

The engine and transmission choices remain unchanged which includes three four-cylinder motors ranging from 128 hp to 201 hp and either a 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic or 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox depending on trim levels. 

For India market, Hyundai is expected to bring the refreshed Elantra to the market in 2019. The sedan will take on the likes of the Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla and the recently revealed facelift for the India-bound Honda Civic.
