Porsche has officially debuted the 2019 Macan at an event in Shanghai, with a revised styling, a tweaked look and more technology.

Porch’s Macan SUV has been the most successful model so far in terms of sales globally. Remarkably, Porch has delivered more than 3.5 lakh units of this model since its inception back in 2014. For the sake of further boost sales, Porsche has launched a mid-life facelift of Macan. The German firm has provided the 2019 Porsche Macan facelift with a new design, an upgraded powerplant and new tech. This new SUV is going to face-off against the Jaguar F-Pace and new BMW X4.

As for the exterior, the new facelift includes a redesigned front bumper, new LED projector headlights and a full-width LED strip between the swanky LED taillights. It’s the back that draws the attention thanks to its full-width taillight strip featuring a standard LED setup akin to the Cayenne and Panamera. The 2019 Macan is wearing a new coat of paint called Miami Blue, which joins other fresh shades such as Dolomite Silver Metallic, Crayon, and Mamba Green Metallic. Rounding off the changes on the inside are the newly designed 20- and 21-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the dashboard now has redesigned with Porsche's Communication Management system. This system is outstanding with a larger 11.0-inch infotainment screen which occupies a prominent spot on the top of the centre stack, as compared to the existing 7.0-inch screen. The larger display forces the designers to move the air vents lower which also been repositioned to sit below the display, rather than flanking it on the previous design. This facelift of Porch also features a standard voice control. There is the off-road precision smartphone app for recording the camera feeds during off-road driving.

Further changes in the interior include the availability of an optional GT sports steering wheel fitted with what Porsche calls a 'Sports Response button'. The connectivity for the Macan is enhanced as well via a standard Connect Plus module. This supports real-time swarm-based traffic data sourced from 'Here' – the mapping company partly owned by fellow VW Group brand, Audi.

Porsche has yet to confirm the Macan's revised engine line-up because of the delay of the WLTP testing process. However, the entry-level Macan is expected to be fitted with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol powertrain which will receive a moderate increase in power – from 251hp to around 260hp. The existing turbocharged 3.6-litre V6 used in the Macan S, Macan GTS and Macan Turbo will be replaced by two different V6 engines developed in an engineering partnership between Porsche and Audi – similar to the engine variants seen in the Cayenne.

Porsche boss Oliver Blume has recently indicated that diesel engines could be dropped from the Macan line-up, entirely, despite enjoying strong sales in many markets. The return of the diesel Macan seems unlikely at this point, while a hybrid version is also being ruled out this generation.

The Macan's gearbox remains to be unchanged. All of the engine power will be received from a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with steering wheel-mounted shift paddles, as well as a multi-plate-clutch four-wheel-drive system.

The Macan SUV has been considering as one of the fastest-selling Porsche models in the company's history. However, it still has to face a stiff competition soon in the premium SUV class from the Audi Q5, BMW X4, Jaguar F-Pace and Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupé.

The pre-facelift Macan in India retails from Rs 80.38 lakh to Rs 1.52 crore (ex-showroom, India) and comes in two variants –the 252hp, Macan petrol and the range-topping 440hp, Macan Turbo.
