5 Lakh CNG Vehicles Sold By Maruti Suzuki

The carmaker currently manufactures CNG option for seven models in its lineup: Alto K10, Alto 800, Celerio, WagonR, Eeco, Dzire and Super Carry, in which the Wagon R is the best selling one.

Commenting on the milestone, Kenichi Ayukawa, managing director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki, stated,

“We are happy that over 5,00,000 customers have selected factory-fitted CNG vehicles that are cleaner, reliable, safer and environment-friendly.  The benefit of low cost of ownership comes along with environment-friendly fuel option of CNG. The government’s resolve to rapidly expand countrywide CNG will enable many more customers to own an environment-friendly transport.”

The CNG vehicles produced by Maruti Suzuki are popular in Delhi NCR and in such large states as Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Punjab, UP, Orissa. In 2018-19, the total CNG vehicles sales of the company rose by more than 50%. Also in this period, Maruti Suzuki has also expanded its CNG vehicles presence to 26 new cities, which translates into a total of 150 cities across the country.

Considering the hiking fuel prices and the serious air pollution in India, the development of CNG vehicles has been strongly encouraged in the country. Maruti Suzuki has also taken advantage of this situation to boost the sales of CNG vehicles and broken the record of five lakh units sold. The company is expected to continue to improve its CNG vehicles portfolio both in terms of quantity and quality to satisfy the demand of this emerging but potential segment.
