In the next two years, we will welcome a host of new SUV cars to the Indian market, from Volkswagen to Skoda. Here are some names that will rock the future SUV segment.

The SUVs segment has shown itself to be a lucrative market with an impressive and growing sales number. Right now, the first hit and also king of this section is Hyundai Creta. Impressed by the success Hyundai’s compact SUVs, other manufacturers see a great potential and follow the upward trend by releasing their own compact SUVs. And by 2020, which means in two years’ time, you will get to know eight cars that will soon join the game.

1. Nissan Kicks

The launch of Nissan Kicks is an important time for the Japanese carmakers, marking the return of Nissan in India market. It has been years since the last time we saw an all-new car introduced in India. For its returns, they decided to bring in its best card – the popular global compact SUV Nissan Kicks.

Apparently, Nissan has put a lot into the production of the Indian-spec Kicks. For the India market, the car will be extended in length, width and height as it will be underpinned by a new platform – the B0 platform seen on the Renault Captur.

Besides a much-appreciated growth in size, the Kicks also receives added features like a full-degree camera, a digital screen on the instrument cluster, LED headlamps, creating a stylish vibe for the 2019 version. What’s more, the Kicks will be available with both diesel and petrol engine, and the diesel version will draw power from the 1.5-litre K9k engine run other Renault and Nissan models.

Expected Launch Date: January 2019

Price: Around Rs 10 lakh

2. Honda HR-V

Honda HR-V has first made its appearance in the international market back in 1999. But it is not until the rise the compact SUVs that Honda decides to bring its HR-V to the India market. The India-spec HR-V will be launch sometime in 2019.

The compact SUV is underpinned by the same platform from the Jazz and the City. Recently, international HR-V is given some updates which are expected to be featured in the Indian version too. The updates include full LED application, interiorly and exteriorly, panoramic sunroof, and the special Magic seats. These amazing offers have a high chance to catch on in the Indian market if they made it to India.

And for the Europe market, HR-V will come with a new 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine in Europe. Another engine powering the HR-V is the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol. It is not sure what engine option will be offered in India market.

3. Kia SP-Based SUV

More than just another new car, Kia SP-based SUV will be the first car from Kia to enter the Indian market. The new SUV is based on the Kia SP Concept. There is a lot to expect from the Kia SP, especially when it is expected that the new Kia SUV is strongly inspired by the Hyundai Creta – India’s number one sold SUV. The Kia SP production version runs on the same platform from the Hyundai Creta.

4. New-gen Renault Duster

The second-gen Renault Duster has been introduced in Europe, Middle East, and it will not be long till the launch date in India. The new Duster remains the design characteristic from the first gen, for example, the boxy and muscular elements. Inside the cabin, new updates to expect include new infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Compatibility.

Besides the test-and-tried K9k Diesel, Renault Duster will get a new 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine which comes in two states of tune, 130PS and 150PS. It is much likely to carry the AWD system and the independent rear suspension setup to its new generation – these are features that unique to the Duster in its class.

5. Jeep Renegade

Jeep Renegade is likely to be Jeep’s next launch in India market. This popular compact SUV, in the latest facelift, has been given the new turbocharged petrol engine along with other features. Hopefully, the India-bounded Renegade will continue Jeep Compass’s accomplishment.

T-Cross will be strongly localized to the point that we could call it a made-in-India car. Until now, there is barely anything to predict about this new SUV. The launch date will be well in the future, which is around late 2020.

Expected Launch Date: Late 2020

7. Updated Renault Captur

Another SUV from the Renault, Renault Captur is scheduled to receive its updates in 2019. Renault Captur has always been known for being feature-rich, however, its infotainment system is not its strong point. However, coming to the new version, the Captur might come with a well-equipped infotainment system with the new Media Nav Evolution system. This unit is confirmed to be featured on the new-gen Duster, so it is possible that the Captur will get the same updates.
