The nine-speed automatic gearbox has finally appeared on the diesel sedan Civic for the first time.

The new engine of Honda Civic 2019 India has the capacity of 1.6-liter, an updated version of the outgoing 1.6-litre I-DTEC, and it is able to produce two different states of tune: 120hp and 300Nm or 160PS and 350Nm. After making its appearance on the Civic, a 1.6-litre diesel engine is planned to serve the up-coming CR-V as well. It is likely that both of these two Indian-bound models will receive the same diesel automatic option.

Beside the 6-speed manual transmission, Honda also claims that their new 1.6-liter diesel engine with an automatic nine-speed gearbox is able to accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 11sec. To provide a higher mileage as well as easy gear-shifting, the automatic gearbox allows drivers to change instantly from one gear to other without going through the in-between gears, for example, you can shift from the eighth to fifth without getting into the seventh and sixth gear.

Besides this diesel option, 2019 Honda Civic also provides petrol option. A 1.8-litre engine providing 140PS will take the power-producing duty.

Honda Civic will be released in 2019

It is confirmed by Honda that, in 2019, the next-gen Civic will be introduced in the Indian market. The diesel automatic option has first shown up in the USA market. Later, Honda has made its decision to launch the diesel engine with a nine-speed automatic gearbox in the UK market and it will soon arrive the Indian market. Honda also states that the diesel Civic will be the first FWD sedan ever to have a 9-speed automatic gearbox.

In the UK market, the next-gen Civic also gets a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with 126PS and 200Nm. But this engine option is not likely to make it to the Indian market. Instead, the 1.5-litre Turbo Petrol seems to have a better chance of being introduced on the Indian market.

After being launched, the Civic will compete against Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla Altis, Hyundai Elantra. All of which are available with diesel automatic transmission. Therefore, Honda has the good reason to release this engine option in the Indian market.

The 2019 Honda Civic is possibly priced above 15 lakh.
