Hyundai Motors India is set to reveal the name of their new small hatchback in the first week of October this year with a suspected launch soon after.

Recently we have been drowning in the pools of good news from Hyundai Motor India, which includes its plan on introducing new hatchback whose codename is AH2. The new hatchback which is rumored to be named ‘Santro’ will be launched soon, maybe in the first week of October. In the next two month, we will get to know more about this new car.

The name of this car reminds of the now-discontinued Santro Xing. And there is the chance that the new car will have a suffix next to ‘Santro’. In the past, Hyundai has been succeeded with the name Santro. Therefore, it is no surprise that the manufacturers revive the name. Hyundai also starts a competition for their customers to voice their suggestion for the name of this new Santro. The contest will start on August 16th last for one month. Its official name will be revealed shortly before its launch in October. It isn’t the first time Hyundai opens the door to people-chosen name. Kia – its subsidiary – has taken the same road to name its next car to launch next year.

The new Santro might bear some resemblances with the Santro Xing

The upcoming Santro will fit in the entry hatchback segment and maybe. It will take the lower position than the i10 and replace the Eon which hasn’t received any updates since its launch in 2011.

Some spy pictures have revealed something about this new car. Apparently, the Santro features a tall stance with a high roof, which resembles the previous Santro. This design feature will allow easy ingress/egress. The new Santro is expected to follow the new design philosophy of Hyundai - Fluidic 2.0 design, which suggests it might take the signature cascading grille.

It is expected that its new car will be as feature-loaded as other rivals of the same segment.

It is still uncertain what engine the new Santro will get. We could expect that Santro will have the same engine options from the Eon – 0.8-litre, and 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine. A new 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine could also be the generating unit for the new Santro. Whatever the engine is, it is highly possible that the Santro will closely follow the new norms on emission level and will be equipped with a five-speed Automated Manual Transmission.

After being launched, the Santro will pit itself against Maruti Suzuki Alto, Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki WagonR. And the price of the Santro is predicted to range from 3.5 lakh.

In the time to come, there will be more news about the Santro. Follow our site, IndianAuto, to keep up with the latest news from the Indian auto business.
