Hyundai To Plan On Introducing Other EVs Positioned Below Kona EV In India

Hyundai is serious on their plan of expanding their hold in the EV market which is expected to be the focused segment in the following years in India. After reviving the Santro brand name, it will continue straight to the new electrical vehicle – Hyundai Kona. This EV is expected to be launch next year at the expected price of Rs 25 lakh.

Hyundai Kona EV is expected to be launched next year in India

Hyundai Kona is claimed to have the range of around 250km with one single charge. At this rate, it will be the first EVs under 30 lakh in India to have long range. Hyundai Kona EV is spotted being on its test on India road recently. It is still unknown if this car could make it big in India as the market for the EVs is still in the very first stage. But this undecided future could not prevent Hyundai from set their foot well into this segment. Hyundai is reported to considering releasing other electric cars following the launch of the Kona. If possible, the next EVs will possibly sit below the Kona.

Hyundai’s MD & CEO Y K Koo had some words to share about their future plan:

“We will review both sedan and SUV (body types) but I think chances for bringing an SUV are much higher.”

So the new car could either be sedan and SUV with the preference for SUV. It sounds like a good plan for the India market as we will not deny another SUV to cherish, especially an EV SUV.

Besides the EV Kona, other EVs from Hyundai are expected to be introduced soon

Right now, we haven’t seen any electric SUV that sits below the Kona anywhere. But at the 2018 São Paulo International Motor Show in Brazil, Hyundai will introduce electric compact SUV named Sage EV concept. There is a good chance that this would be the next EV for the India market from Hyundai. This concept is expected to be frame a conventional SUV or crossover with fuel engine.

Moreover, the upcoming Hyundai QXi a sub-4-meter SUV might also be turned into an EV. If it becomes true, the electric version of this car will surely sit below the Kona Electric.
