A fisherman living in Kerala has been presented with a new Mahindra Marazzo for giving his back to a woman so that she could get onto the rescue boat.

2018 Kerala Floods are considered the most awful natural disaster in almost 100 years, making many people homeless or even lose their life.

Kerala floods have left dire consequences for the life of people in the state

However, even in the hardest life conditions, we can witness many heroic actions and sacrifices, regardless of border or state. Thousands of the victims have been rescued, thanks to the fishing community, who used their boats to help flood-affected people, irrespective of the risks to their life. They deserved to be called the “heroes of Kerala floods.”

A representative of these heroes is a fisherman currently living in Kerala who became famous, thanks to a photo in which he is lying prostrate, lending his back to a woman to step on to get into a rescue boat. His name is KP Jaisal.

To reward this heroic action, Mahindra dealership Eram Motors in Kozhikode have rewarded Jaisal with an all-new Mahindra Marazzo, launched this week by Mahindra at Nashik.

In the event of the car’s handover to Jaisal, he expressed his pleasure to receive the gift and promised to utilize it for good purposes. He also stated that previously, the NDRF team had informed him that a marooned woman in an impossible location was bleeding. He thought that she would have difficulty in getting onto the boat by herself, which persuaded him to act like that.

Kerala Excise and Labour minister TP Ramachandran presented the key of the Marazzo to Jaisal

Two of his friends who risked their lives to rescue Kerala flood-affected people were also bestowed a ‘Gem of the Sea’ title.

After the historic actions at Vengara, Jaisal and other fishermen will continue their rescue efforts in other locations affected by the floods. The rescue efforts witnessed the participation of around 3000 fishermen who transported their boats to flood-affected areas which are distant from the sea. More than 480 people lost their lives in the Kerala floods, which began in July and reached its peak in August which was also the time when several dams simultaneously sprayed the floods and the 31000000mm of rain hit the area in just one day, August 8, 2018.
