Made-in-India Hyundai i20 Scores 3 Stars in Global NCAP test

The Hyundai i20 manufactured in India has been exported to the South African region for three years. The hatchback came on the list of vehicles to-be-judged in the crash test conducted by the Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP). The i20 was tested in the range of the frontal impact at 64 km/h received a 3-star rating for adult occupant safety and a 2-star rating for child occupant protection.

The Global NCAP only rated 3 stars for the Hyundai i20's adult occupant protection

According to the Global NCAP result, the Hyundai i20 offered adequate protection for the head and neck of driver and passenger as well as minor protection for the driver’s chest and upper leg region. The body shell of the Hyundai i20 was unstable and failed to bear with the further loadings and the footwell of the vehicle was also unbalanced during the test.

Regarding the child occupant protection, the India-made hatchback brought limited protection for the 3-year-old dummy, it disappointingly received 2 stars accordingly. In spite of being fitted with RWF that uses the adult seatbelt and providing good protection for the head and chest area, the vehicle does not offer the ISOFIX seat anchorage as standard.

The Global NCAP also noted the Africa-bound hatchback Hyundai i20 is also deprived of the standard safety features such as the Electronic Stability Control (ESC), side body airbags and side curtain airbags compared to the Euro-spec i20.
