Mahindra XUV Aero: What To Expect From This New Vehicle?

The Mahindra XUV Aero Coupe SUV concept was first debuted at the 2016 Auto Expo and then at the 2017 Automobile Barcelona. It is projected to be launched in India in the coming time and become the flagship product with the highest price in Mahindra’s lineup. Let’s see what we can expect from this new amazing vehicle.

1. Mahindra XUV Aero Launch Date

According to a press release, the production model of the vehicle has received approval from the home-grown automaker. The SUV will soon go into its testing stage and then the production phase at the Chakan plant near Pune. However, it might take no less than two years for the Mahindra XUV Aero to be available on the Indian auto market. While there has been no official confirmation made by Mahindra as to the exact launch date of the XUV Aero SUV, it is expected to be launched in India at the beginning of 2019.

Earlier, Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, M&M stated that the first engineering operations had been implemented for the SUV, and now the company is researching its business possibility. According to Mahindra, the Indian car buyers are still not interested in the top-end vehicles produced by domestic automakers. Nevertheless, considering the stable market demand and the growth of the Indian SUV segment, Mahindra has decided to accelerate the production of the XUV Aero.

2. Mahindra XUV Aero Exterior

The design of the Mahindra Aero is the most impressive aspect of the whole SUV with the combination of SUV and coupe design. The XUV Aero SUV has been developed by the design team of Mahindra in India. The 45-member team is led by Ramkripa Anathan with material sourced from Pininfarina. Expressing his opinion of the XUV Aero concept, Mr. Pravin Shah, president and chief executive, automotive business at Mahindra stated, the Mahindra XUV Aero concept will feature a robust design with “all the futuristic connected technology”.

The XUV Aero will look more modern than the current products. The SUV seems to take the inspiration from the Mahindra XUV500 with a stylish novel front grille, angular headlamps, sculpted lines and hood. The SUV will also come with brand-new LED DRLs, a sloping roofline, hood vents and a bold body kit to support a low stance.

The side profile of the vehicle is expected to represent its unique design. The prominent wheel arches with large alloy wheels and the suicide door will contribute to the sportiness of its side profile.

In the rear, the windscreen neatly will flow into a short and thick lip spoiler. The high-positioned LED tail lamps, the fashionable diffuser, the faux diffuser, and the bumper which comes with some black inserts are anticipated to add to the attraction of the SUV.

In terms of dimensions, the new SUV will be 4840mm long, 1890mm wide, 1680 high with a 2700mm wheelbase.

3. Mahindra XUV Aero Interior

Most of the cabin of the XUV Aero is similar to that of the XUV500 except for a brand-new colour scheme which, however, is unlikely to appear in the production model. The dashboard will be equipped with a wide floating high-resolution touchscreen which is expected to appear in all future Mahindra products. A brand-new steering wheel and a new central console will also be present on the new SUV. It is expected that unlike the SUV500, the XUV Aero will not have the third seat row. Multi-zone temperature control among other comfort features will also add to the attraction of the XUV Aero’s interior.

4. Mahindra XUV Aero Performance

Engine

In terms of mechanical specifications, the new SUV Aero will be powered by a 2.2L m-Hawk diesel motor with a modern combustion system, new-gen turbocharger and low-pressure ERG tech. Thanks to these cutting-edge technologies, the engine will deliver a more impressive performance and better refinement. The same engine has already been adopted in other Mahindra vehicles but with a less powerful performance.

This engine is able to produce a max power of 210bhp with four driving mode options available: Race, Off-road, Street and Sport. It is likely to come mated to a 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT unit. The XUV Aero is claimed to accelerate from a standstill to 100kmph in just 6 seconds.

Mahindra is also planning to introduce an electric version of the SUV. Dr Pawan Kumar Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra stated,  “Electric Mahindra XUV Aero is one of the options that we are investigating right now. Our plans for bringing out the Aero also depend on the cost of the high voltage powertrain technology.” Mahindra Electric is reported to be collaborating with SsangYong on a 380-volt system with a travel range of more than 250km and other battery systems with a power output between 41bhp and 204bhp.

Thanks to the advanced techs of the engine, the SUV Aero will be highly fuel-efficient with a mileage of 10kmpl in the city and 12kmpl in the highway. The mileage in reality can vary, depending on the vehicle’s curb weight and road conditions, etc.

5. Mahindra XUV Aero Price in India

While it is too early to pinpoint the exact price of the vehicle which will only be revealed at its launch, the Mahindra XUV Aero is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant to Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top variant. If it gets this price once launched in India, the new SUV will become the most extravagant vehicle of Mahindra & Mahindra in India.

6. Mahindra XUV Aero Competition

With a modern styling, cutting-edge interior features, impressive performance with advanced engine technologies, if launched at this price, the new SUV Aero will directly take on the likes of premium luxury coup SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz GLE Class and the BMW X6. Furthermore, its other competitors can also include Hyundai Tucson and the forthcoming Skoda Karoq.

The 2019 Mahindra XUV Aero is expected to become a flagship product of the domestic automaker, help Mahindra reinforce its position in the Indian SUV segment and compete with foreign carmakers.
