Mahindra XUV300, which will be launched in India in early 2019, will be equipped with some top-notch features over its rivals.

The details of the Mahindra’s forthcoming sub-4-metre SUV, the XUV300, have recently been unveiled by the home-grown automaker. The compact SUV will be offered in both petrol and diesel variants and replete with top-in-segment features. Read on to discover five things offered by Mahindra XUV300 which are over its rivals.

The Mahindra XUV300 will have some top-in-segment features

1. Longest wheelbase

When announcing the name of the Mahindra, Dr Pawan Goenka, MD, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd announced that the XUV300 will come with the longest wheelbase in its segment. He did not reveal a specific figure, but it is expected to resemble that of the SsangYong Tivoli, with which the XUV300 shares X100 platform. The SsangYong Tivoli measures 4,190mm in length with a 2600mm wheelbase. With such a wheelbase, the XUV300 is expected to have a longer wheelbase than even some of the SUVs in the higher segment, like the Hyundai Creta by 10mm. A longer wheelbase will translate into a roomier cabin.

Refer to the table below to see a detailed comparison between the wheelbase of the Mahindra XUV300 and its rivals.

 Car models Wheelbase
 Mahindra XUV300 (expected)  2600mm
 SsangYong Tivoli  2600mm
 Maruti Brezza  2500mm
 Tata Nexon   2498mm
 Ford EcoSport  2519mm

2. The highest number of airbags

While most other sub-4m SUVs in India are equipped with dual airbags in the front, the XUV300 will sport up to seven airbags in the top-spec variant. Among its rivals, only the Ford Ecosport offers more than two airbags (six airbags) in the top-of-the-line variant. All the variants of the XUV300 are anticipated to be packed with standard safety features including

  • Two front airbags

  • ABS with EBD

  • Rear parking sensors

  • ISOFIX child seat anchor

3. Comfortable cabin

The Mahindra XUV300 is not only known to offer the largest number of airbags but also the most advanced climate control. While its rivals offer only single-zone unit or regular automatic air conditioner, once launched, the XUV300 will be the first car ever in the Indian sub-4m SUV segment to be equipped with a dual-zone temperature control. A single-zone unit enables you to set only a single AC temperature for the whole car; on the other hand, on the XUV300, with the dual-zone unit, both the driver and the co-passengers can set two distinctive temperatures.

Moreover, to optimize the passengers’ travelling experience, the domestic automaker has also been working on decreasing the NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) levels. Therefore, comfort is another aspect that makes the XUV300 stand out from other SUVs in its segment.

4. Rear disc brakes

For braking functions, unlike all the current sub-4m SUVs in India which come with disk brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear, the XUV300 will be the first car in the segment to sport disc brakes on all wheels. Rear disk brakes will help decrease the stopping distance in comparison with drum brakes.

5. Most impressive performance

Mahindra has also confirmed that the XUV300 will have the most impressive performance in its class. Although the company has not revealed anything about the mechanical specifications of the XUV300, it is expected to be available in both petrol and diesel motor options. The diesel unit will be a 1.5L diesel motor borrowed from the Marazzo which can produce 123PS of max power and 300Nm of peak torque. The petrol one will be a new 1.2L turbocharged motor which is stated to be developed in cooperation with SsangYong. The transmission duties in both of the petrol and diesel variants will be undertaken by a 6-speed MT gearbox, which helps the SUV operate more efficiently on highways. At present, the most powerful vehicles in the segment are the diesel Tata Nexon and the petrol Ford EcoSport with a power output of 110PS and 125PS, respectively.

With an aerodynamic design, the Mahindra XUV300 SUV looks exciting and is packed with segment-leading features and a kit of powerful petrol and diesel motors. The “XUV” badge will help the compact SUV follow the success of its larger elder brother, the XUV500. With a competitive price range from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12 lakh, the Mahindra XUV300 SUV is expected to compete against some popular sub-4m SUV in India such as the Honda WR-V, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford Tata Nexon EcoSport and even the cars from above segments like the Hyundai Creta and the Maruti S-Cross.
