Four test mules Mahindra XUV300 were spotted parking outside a Maruti dealership. The vehicle will launch in India on February 15, 2019

The four test mules shot while being parked outside a Maruti showroom indicates that Mahindra is ready to introduce their flagship SUV, the sub 4 metre XUV300 into the Indian auto market. Like the other SUV from the cheetah-inspired XUV family, the upcoming SUV will be supported by the monocoque chassis and borrows some of the styling elements from its elder brother, the XUV500.

Mahindra XUV300 will start to go on sale in India on February 15th, 2019. The bookings for the vehicle have already been opened both at the company dealerships and online. The new compact SUV will be available in three variants: W4, W6 and W8 and one optional W8 (O). The domestic automaker has announced that the new XUV300 will be priced in the range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12 lakh.

Underpinned by the same platform as the  SsangYong Tivoli, the Mahindra XUV300’s expected exterior feature list includes projector headlights and boomerang LED DRLs in the front; wide wheel arches, a sunroof and 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels on the side profile; and LED taillights, rear washer/wiper, and roof-mounted spoiler in the rear.

The Mahindra XUV300 is expected to have an impressive exterior list

Despite the long exterior list, it is the cabin of the XUV300, which is expected to be equipped with some segment-leading features, that will impress the passengers most. Featuring a black-and-beige dual paint scheme, its cabin will be very spacious with amber legroom for both the passengers in the front or the rear seat row, thanks to the longest-in-the-segment wheelbase. It will be replete with a wide touchscreen infotainment system which supports Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Particularly, one of its top-in-the-segment features is the dual zone automatic temperature control, which, for the first time, will be packed on a compact SUV in India. The safety features will include 7 airbags (another segment-leading feature), parking sensors, ABS with EBD, disc brakes on all the four wheels.

Mahindra XUV300 will be offered with two engine options. While the 1.2L petrol motor is good for a maximum power of 130 PS and a peak torque of 200 Nm, the 1.5L diesel engine can generate 123 PS against 300 Nm, which make it the most powerful compact SUV in the segment. Both engines will be coupled to a 6-speed MT gearbox with an AMT unit being considered for the near future.

 1.2L petrol  130 PS

 200 Nm

 6-speed MT

 1.5L diesel

Once launched, the Mahindra XUV300 will rival other vehicles in the same segment such as the Tata Nexon, the Honda WRV and the Maruti Brezza. This compact SUV is regarded as a breakthrough of the homegrown auto manufacturer and is expected to help the company reinforce its position in the teeming compact SUV segment.
