Mahindra is ready to launch its new compact SUV whose name is confirmed to be Mahindra XUV300.

Mahindra’s upcoming compact SUV codenamed S201 will be named Mahindra XUV300, in line with other cars from Mahindra like the XUV500, TUV300 or KUV100. While many reports were suggesting Inferno, Mahindra has gone back to the alpha-numeric nomenclature.

This SUV will be the first model from Mahindra to be launched in 2019 after the two important launches of the Marazzo and flagship Alturas in 2018. The sub-four-meter SUV will take cues from its popular SUV Mahindra XUV500.

While Mahindra already launched many models in the under-four-meter SUV segment including the Quanto, TUV300 and the NuvoSport, the SUVs haven't been able to make a mark. After Marazzo, Mahindra XUV300 will also be built on a monocoque chassis instead of the conventional ladder-frame chassis used on most the company's SUVs.

As Mahindra has acquired the South Korean car manufacturer SsangYong, many models of the Mahindra is going to get a strong inspiration from SsangYong. For the XUV300, it will be underpinned by the Tivoli’s platform developed by SsangYong with some minor tweaks and updates, which would also mean that it is likely to come up with the largest-in-the-segment wheelbase. But surely, it is still a Mahindra in nature with its distinctive and aerodynamic design.

Just like the Marazzo or the Alturas, Mahindra XUV300 knows how to attract the attention of the customers ahead of its launch: The compact SUV will be offered with first-in-segment features that include sunroof, seven airbags, dual-zone automatic climate control, large touchscreen infotainment unit, four-wheel disc brake and more. To enhance the comfort inside the cabin, Mahindra has worked on reducing the NVH levels with a better aerodynamic design. .

Under the hood, the XUV300 is going to share the engine with the MPV Marazzo, which is the 1.5-litre engine. On Marazzo, this unit could put out 123bhp and 300Nm. If these output figures are successfully transferred to the SUV, it will be the most powerful and torquiest cars in its class. A six-speed manual gearbox will take on the transmission duty.

Mahindra XUV300 is expected to go on sales within the first three months of 2019. It will take on the likes of Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brazza. Mahindra is also working on the EV version of the XUV300, which is expected to launch in 2020.
