The arrival of the new Ertiga has heated up the battle of the MPV segment. At its launch, the Ertiga will come up against the likes of Mahindra Marazzo, Honda BR-V, Renault Lodgy or Toyota Innova Crysta. Here we will group the Ertiga with Marazzo and Innova Crysta to compare the specs of these cars to find out which one will suit you most.

 Wheelbase  2740mm  2760mm  2750mm

Here are some takeaways from this table:

  • The longest car: Innova Crysta
  • The highest car: Still the Crysta
  • The widest car: Mahindra Marazzo

Obviously, the size is not Ertiga’s strength despite its dimensional extension for the new generation. But if you take a broader view, the Ertiga is the most affordable car among the three and it sits on the segment of compact MPV, it is understandable why it lets other competitors win hand down. Instead of comparing themselves to other, we should appreciate that Ertiga is now bigger than its old self.

2. Maruti Ertiga 2018 Vs Mahindra Marazzo Vs Toyota Innova Crysta Exterior

The 2018 Ertiga will get a reworked exterior with some added touches like the redesigned headlamps with projector light, new chrome grille, prominent stance and L-shaped LED tail lights.

On the other hands, the Marazzo which is just recently launched, its all-new design is spired by the shark. However, the car turns out to be a mild and conventional design. The car has a pronounced stance and sits on larger wheels of 17 inches. Overall, the Marazzo is essentially larger than the Ertiga. More specifically, it is 289mm longer, 171mm wider and 89mm taller.

Toyota Crysta looks the most appealing of the three. The design of the Crysta is simple but very effective and elegant. The proportionate and mature design of the Crysta has partly helped it to become one of the best-selling cars in the segment. It is also the largest models out of the cars.

3. Maruti Ertiga 2018 Vs Mahindra Marazzo Vs Toyota Innova Crysta Engine and Transmission

On the engine front, Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova Crysta are available in both diesel and petrol version while the Marazzo only comes with the diesel engine at launch, possibly. The petrol motor will be offered on the next updates for the Marazzo, but right now, customers could only get the petrol engine.

 3.1. Diesel engine

Maruti Ertiga Mahindra Marazzo  Toyota Innova Crysta
 Engine  1.3-litre  1.5-litre  2.4-litre/2.8-litre
 Power  90PS  122PS  150PS/174PS

 Transmission  5MT  6MT  5MT/6AT
 Mileage  25.47kmpl  17.6kmpl  13.7 kmpl/11.4kmpl

The Crysta wins hands down in this aspect. It comes with two diesel options, a 2.4-litre and a 2.8-litre motor. The diesel engines that it offers have the largest displacement and obviously are the most powerful out of three engines. The smaller engine is able to develop the maximum power of 150PS and the peak torque of 343Nm while the larger is good for 174PS and 360Nm. The transmission option includes a 5-speed manual gearbox and the 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Offering 2 diesel options, Toyota Innova Crysta is easily the most powerful car

Mahindra Marazzo comes second with the total output of 122PS and 300Nm. It is powered by a 1.5-litre motor. The engine is paired exclusively with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Maruti Ertiga only has a humble diesel engine of 1.3-litre. This unit is good for 90Ps and 200Nm. With these output figure, the Ertiga is the least powerful here. However, it is indeed the most fuel efficiency. At 25.47kmpl, it is one of the most fuel-efficient engines in the seven-seater segment. While the Crysta – the most powerful car – turns out to be the least economical option out of the three cars. This aggressive engine eats fuel up so quickly. The claimed mileage rates at 13.7kmpl for the smaller engine and 11.4kmpl for the larger engine. The Marrazzo even though could not compete with the unbeatable mileage of the Ertiga, it still manages to bring out a decent mileage of 17.6 kmpl and easily make its way to the top MPV cars with the highest mileage.
