The booking for Maruti Gypsy will be stopped in December, marking the end for one of the popular offroaders from Maruti production lineup.

It is confirmed that Maruti Suzuki dealers will not receive booking order after 31st December 2018. It is also the end for the Gypsy in Maruti production profile. The production of Gypsy will be terminated in March 2019.

Launched in 1985, Maruti Gypsy has been in the business for more than three decades, making one of the longest standing cars in the India market. More than that, the Gypsy has become a memorable car in Indian’s mind.

Maruti Gypsy is Indian's favourite off-roader ever since its debut in 1985

The current Gypsy is powered by the 1.3-litre MPFI BS4 engine, which could churn out the maximum power of 80 bhp, and max torque of 103 Nm. It also comes with a 4WD system. The Gypsy offers a strong, terrain-defying performance that has captivated generations of Indians, especially those from the law enforcement.

Despite the love it receives, the Gypsy, like many other good things, has to come to its end. The discontinuation is due to the upcoming BSIV emission norms which will be adopted on April 2-19. As the Gypsy could hardly meet the new norms, it is the best that the Gypsy gives its last goodbye.

On the international market, the Gipsy is well-acknowledged as the Jimny. The recent Gypsy is actually the second gen Jimny. As the fourth generation of the Jimny, which meets both the new BSIV norms as well as the safety norm, is just launched in the Japanese market, this version will slot perfectly into the position that the Gypsy leaves behind.

It is the very last chance for you to get a Gipsy to your garage. Maruti Suzuki Gipsy starts from 5.71lakh and could go up to 6.37 lakh.
