Maruti Ignis 2020 - What Makes This Car A Good Hatchback?

28/06/2020 | by Vivaan Khatri

Share on facebook Share on twitter Share on pinterest
Maruti Ignis stands out from other vehicles of its class due to its aggressive styling along with a segment-leading feature package. The recent BSVI facelift has added some new details to this compact hatchback.

It was the Renault Kwid that started the trend of making SUVish SUV. Even though it was launched first, the Renault Kwid is not the most successful with this styling. After the Renault Kwid, there are several vehicles that follow this formula. One of the best cars to pull out a commercially successful and widely-approved micro-SUV design is the Maruti Ignis. Maruti Ignis inherits the youthful look and affordable prices, all the traits that gain the compact crossover customer’s preference. With the earlier success with the bigger Vitara Brezza, Maruti Suzuki understands how to appeals the customers with good design, technology, and high practicality.

Maruti Ignis Exterior Design

Maruti Ignis has a non-conventional, quirky appearance if compared to other regular hatchback design, which might not be up to everyone's taste.

Front view

You can hardly miss a Maruti Ignis when it drives past you. Despite the small proportion of a hatchback, its intimidating and robust fascia creates an undeniable road presence. Maruti has a wide range of hatchback models, however, the Ignis looks that none other Maruti cars that were produced before it.

With a dominating mesh front grille which integrates seamlessly with the headlights, a boxy fog light housing with U-shaped LED DRLs, faux front air vent on the bonnet and upright stance, the Maruti Ignis shows a clear inspiration of the SUV styling. The recent updates for the compact SUV have added some new elements like the new chrome garnish and a dominant silver front skid place. The use of chrome element gives shines to the front end and gives a decent quotation of sleekness for the exterior.

Side view

From the side profile, the high stance of the Ignis is highlighted. It gets some signature SUVish traits like flared wheels, plastic side cladding, blackout pillars and roof rails. Turn indicators are integrated with the ORMs. The C pillar features a three dash design called Suzuki Progressive Triad” that reminds us of the old Suzuki Fronte Coupe. It should be noted that the 2020 Maruti Ignis sports a sleek-looking 15-inch gloss black alloy wheels.

Rearview

The rear look features the same aggressive design approach seen on the front end. However, it is not as intimidating as a bigger-size SUV. The rear end comes with a set of big and roundish split taillights and rear spoiler. ON the BSVI-updated facelift, the Maruti Ignis receives a revised rear bumper design with silver skid plate and red rear reflectors.

Maruti Ignis Interior

Coming to the inside, the Maruti Ignis has a rather futuristic design. There is a horizontal vent that running from this side of the dash to the other and marking the border of the two contrasting interior tones, leveraging seamlessness and unity for the dashboard design. One of the unique features of the Maruti Ignis’ interior is the fact that it does not get a centre console unit. Instead, it makes use of a layer set-up with a floating touchscreen sitting on the top and a separate panel for climate control. However, on the lower variants, the touchscreen will be replaced by a 2DIN music system.

Seating Capacity

Despite having a tough and pronounced exterior, the Marut Ignis is still small in its nature. You would not expect to have a spacious room as in other bigger SUVs. Even so, the Ignis’s cabin can still offer a decent space as compared to other hatchbacks of its class. Thanks to the tall boy stance, the cabin of the Ignis offers ambient headroom, enough legroom and knee room. However, it will be a bit cramped to accommodate three occupants at the rear row. To the back, the Ignis offers a boot space of 260 litres which allows the passengers to comfortably load luggage for a weekend getaway.

On the higher variants, it is available with some additional safety aids like rear parking sensor with camera, rear defogger and wiper, and security alarm. The compact hatchback is claimed to score high in terms of pedestrian safety.

Comfort

Maruti Ignis’s interior is well-thought and well-equipped in the comfort terms. It is available with various space for storage, making the cabin highly practical in this sense. On the top variants, Maruti Ignis comes with some tech-savvy features including a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto as well as some comfort highlights like automatic climate control, control-mounted steering wheels. The instrument cluster features two analogue dials and a digital MID which shows useful information like time, date, temperature, fuel economy parameter and more.
