Few weeks before the official launch of the facelifted Maruti Suzuki Baleno in the Indian market, the car has been spied completely undisguised

Back in 2015, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno turned out to be the turning point for the Baleno nameplate in India. While the Baleno sedan, which was launched in 2000 and was on sale until 2007 saw only moderate success, the Baleno hatchback was quick to become a huge success. Now, the first-ever updated version of the Baleno hatchback has been confirmed to launch in February 2019.

The first spy image of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift has finally surfaced. It reveals the refreshed front profile of the new model. Aware of the high expectations of the modern customers, Maruti Suzuki has made subtle changes to the premium hatchback's styling package. The front-end looks a tad sportier and better sculpted than before, which is courtesy of the new bumper. The new chrome accent on the front grille makes the car look more premium. A set of LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs are highly likely to be standardized across all the trims to make the car look better value for money. However, a price rise is inevitable as the company will have to comply with the BSVI norms.

At the rear, a shark fin antenna is expected to replace the micro-antenna of the outgoing model while its alloy wheel design will also witness a revision. It is not yet clear if the interior of the 2019 Maruti Suzuki Baleno would witness any significant change. We believe that the car is likely to get a revised trim, a new fabric pattern and an updated MID. Besides, the upcoming Baleno may get a cruise control like the international-spec version.

Under the bonnet, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno will retain its current engine-transmission combinations. It will feature the K12M naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine and the D13A 1.3-litre diesel motor. Both the motors will be mated to a standard 5-speed manual transmission. Additionally, the gasoline engine will be offered with a CVT automatic as an option.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has registered 5 lakh unit sales in India since its launch in 2015.

The outgoing version of the Maruti Baleno is currently priced at Rs 5.38 Lakh to Rs 8.49 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The facelifted version may have a starting price of Rs 5.50 Lakh. It will take on the likes of the Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and the soon-to-be-launched Tata 45X-based model.
