Maruti Swift is the newest winner of Indian Car of the Year or ICOTY 2019.

Indian Car of the Year 2019 is an annual prize that will pick out the best car and the most successful car of each year. The ICOTY 2019 has gone to Maruti's popular hatchback – the Swift. The criteria of the prize are built in line with other Car of the Year awards in America, Europe or Japan.

The jury of this year’s award includes eminent journalists working in Indian’s biggest automobile magazine and online news websites like Top Gear, Auto Today, Evo India, CarWale, Car India, Motoring World, Flywheel, and Auto X.

To gain the prize, Maruti has beaten other competitors from the same brand and other cars of other carmakers. Hyundai, the second leading automaker in the Indian market, has one nominee, the new Hyundai Santro, which was also a very potential candidate for the prize. It has become one of the best-selling models in the hatchback segment within a short time after its launch in October. The Santro is a fierce and capable rival to the Swift in the race toward the number one position in the hatchback segment. Even not winning the first place, the Santro finished in the second place.
