2020 Mahindra Thar was launched in the country on October 2. After five days from the launch date, Mahindra announced that all-new Thar has managed to garner over 9,000 bookings. While this was surely appreciable, everyone thought that the demand for the new-gen Thar will fall slowly with time. But, the carmaker has recently announced that over 15,000 bookings for the 2020 Mahindra Thar have been received till date from its launch, which took place on October 2. We, inquisitive souls, got back to our calculators to find out how many minutes the all-new Mahindra Thar takes to garner a booking. The figure is crazily low, as one unit of the new-gen Thar was booked every second minute since October 2.

Mahindra is claiming that 57 per cent of the total bookings are made by first-time buyers, which, however, wasn’t the case with the last-gen model. The primary reason that new-gen Thar is in such high demand is that it now comes up a posher and plusher car than its predecessor. The 2020 Thar comes with a host of equipment on board. It gets a 7-inch touchscreen for the infotainment unit with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and satellite navigation.

Other features include automatic climate control, lumbar-adjust for front seats, power windows, keyless entry, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, forward-facing rear seat and more. For the safety occupants, it now gets dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, roll-over mitigation, rear parking sensors, seat belt alarm, high-speed alerts, roll cage, and 3-point seat belts for all occupant in 4-seater configuration.

The 2020 Thar is available with two engine options – 2.0L turbo-petrol and 2.2L turbo-diesel. The former of the two puts out a rated output of 150 Hp and 320 Nm. The oil burner, on the other hand, develops 130 Hp against 300 Nm. The gearbox options on the 2020 Thar include a 6-speed MT and 6-speed automatic gearbox. Also, it comes with a BorgWarner 4X4 transfer case with low-ratio gearbox and mechanically-locking rear differential as standard fitment across the range. The top-spec trim, however, comes with brake-locking front axles. Prices for the all-new Thar start at Rs. 9.80 lakh.
