16 maruti swift cars sold every hour in last 15 years

Swift has been constantly hovering around the top of the sales curve. However, we inquisitive minds made some calculations to understand, how many Swift cars were being sold every hour to reach this figure. The answer to the question is – 16. Yes! Maruti has sold that many units of Swift every hour for 15 long years to reach this milestone.

The first-gen Maruti Swift was launched in India with a 1.3L petrol engine. At a later stage, Maruti plonked in a Fiat-sourced 1.3L oil-burner under its hood. The car was highly loved by the Indian audience for the power delivery and frugality it offered. Since there was no other product to compete against the Swift, the car made a niche of its own.

In 2011, Maruti launched the second-gen Swift in the country. The car came with a K-series 1.2L petrol motor and a 1.3L turbo-diesel engine. The latter was the same motor that was seen on the first-gen car. To keep the Swift’s peppy character alive, Maruti continued with the same engines in the 3rd-gen Swift as well, which was launched in the year 2018. However, Maruti has now pulled the plug on the 1.3L diesel engine in the BS-6 era. It is now offered with the K-series 1.2L 4-cyl petrol motor only. The motor puts out 83 PS of peak power and 113 Nm of max. torque. The transmission options offered on the current-gen Swift are a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT.
