The 2019 Honda Civic Sedan is expected to be launched in India in the first quarter of 2019. The Indian-bound Civic will be similar to the global-spec model, but necessary changes will be done to make it suit the Indian auto market.

The 8th-gen Honda Civic used to be the best-selling sporty sedan in the Indian auto market with 2500 units sold each month; however, Honda decided to cancel the production of this model in August 2012 due to the lack of diesel option and the overwhelming success of the 9th-gen global-spec Civic model. Therefore, it is necessary that Honda has to launch a facelifted Civic with new advanced features to satisfy the Indian auto buyers’ increasingly high demands, especially when they have a tendency to shift to diesel models.

Now, the tenth-gen Civic has been already been launched internationally, the Japanese carmaker is confident and ready to introduce the 2019 Civic to the Indian auto market. The 2019 Civic sedan is now supported by a brand-new strong and lighter modular platform, which, for the first time, will come to India. This means that the new car will experience major changes against the outgoing model and offer better performance as well as driving dynamics. According to the latest confirmation of Honda, the car will be powered by both petrol and diesel engine options.

3. 2019 Honda Civic Performance

Engine

This will be the first time that the Honda Civic is powered by a diesel engine. To be more specific, it will receive power from a brand-new 1.6L i-DTEC diesel motor which is also used on the new Honda CR-V SUV. Equipped with an Idle Stop-Start system, the new engine is able to deliver 118.3bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 300Nm of torque at 2,000rpm. The diesel motor has already been produced by Honda India at Tapukara, Rajasthan plant. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and a new 9-speed automatic unit. The 9-speed transmission is believed to have better shifting refinement and provide a better efficiency. This motor helps the vehicle speed up from a standstill to 100kmph in just 11 seconds and reach a top speed of 200kmph.

Mileage

Honda motors are well-known for their fuel efficiency. The mileage will be enhanced, thanks to more powerful and efficient engines. In India, the diesel version is believed to deliver a mileage of at least 20kmpl while the petrol version is expected to churn out a mileage of around 15-17kmpl. The figure might vary, depending on the vehicle’s kerb weight, road conditions, etc.

Handling and riding quality

When the car corners, the engine, brakes and suspension work well with each other and with the driver to offer a comfortable travelling experience.

4. 2019 Honda Civic Price List and Competitors

The 2019 Civic sedan will be imported to India as a completely knocked down (CKD) unit and then assembled at the Greater Noida plant in UP, which helps Honda aggressively price the new sedan. It is anticipated that the 2019 Honda Civic will be priced between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 23 lakh, depending on the specific variant. With this price range, it can effectively compete against the Skoda Octavia, the Hyundai Elantra and Toyota Corolla.
