During the launch of the 2019 Maruti Suzuki WagonR, the company confirmed that there will be no LPG option for the new model

“We are working on the CNG version. I will not be able to tell you a definite launch date, but we are definitely working on it. There is no merit of having an LPG variant.” This is the official statement of Mr Raman, Maruti Suzuki India’s Senior Executive Director on speaking to the media about the launch of the new WagonR.

Yesterday, Maruti Suzuki has officially launched the next-generation of the WagonR hatchback in the Indian market with the starting price of Rs 4.19 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The true tall boy hatchback has gone on sale with two primary variants: LXi, VXi and ZXi along with two powertrain options comprising a K10B 1.0-litre and a K12 M 1.2-litre gasoline burner which are mated to an automated manual transmission.

The former engine comes to deliver 69.78 PS per 90 Nm while the K12M can produce 82.94 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. A CNG version has been in the process to be introduced later on while the possibility of an LPG option has been dismissed from the production line that has been confirmed by the automotive company.

Despite the fact that General Director of Indian Auto LPG Coalition did reveal about the arrival of the LPG variant earlier this month, the Maruti Suzuki’s official confirmation has eliminated all rumours on the introduction of a dual-fuel LPG option for the new WagonR in India. As CNG version (Compressed Natural Gas) is calling much more attention as compared to the Liquid Petroleum Gas-sourced variant, that’s it, Maruti Suzuki shifts its focus on the former one is easily understandable.

Maruti will not bring in the LPG variant of the new WagonR to the market this time

From now on, the third-gen Maruti Suzuki WagonR will be available to private-owned car buyers only while the CNG version is expected to penetrate in the commercial range. To retain its reputation as the most famous tall boy hatch in the Indian space, Maruti Suzuki has developed the WagonR on a new Strong Heartect Platform offering a lighter curb weight and an impact absorbing structure to contribute the stronger safety and stability for passengers. Other safety aids include driver’s side airbag, front seat-belt reminder (SBR), speed alert, ABS with EBD, central locking and a rear parking camera.
