Datsun redi-GO is the most affordable offering by Nissan-Datsun for India, but it's also quite outdated. To help keep the car fresh, the car will soon receive a facelift.

Datsun India has recently teased the upcoming redi-GO facelift. It may be noted here that all the models in this segment have already gained compliance with the updated emission norms, with the only exception being that of the Datsun redi-GO. Now, however, the company is ready to roll out the updated set of motors along with a handful of styling updates that should make the car more likeable. We decided to tinker around with these pictures, which helped us have a good idea of what the upcoming model will be like.

The images we have here show all the major changes to the car in terms of exterior design. Where the outgoing model felt chubby, with big bulbous headlights, the new model will be much sharper-looking, with dagger-like headlight design, reminiscent of the recently spied Nissan Kicks facelift. The car also gets L-shaped LED DRLs now, and the ORVMs are dual-tone (black/body-colour). In the images, we also see “Datsun” badge above the front wheel arches. The front grille design is completely different now, with a single piece mesh grille stretching from the nose till the chin. Even the wheel caps have been changed and are more definitely more stylish than before.

Other than that, the rest of the design details seem to be the same as before. The car still has its tall-boy design with a short wheelbase, giving it a stubby silhouette. The taillamp design will probably remain the same, or perhaps similar. Thanks to all the updates, the car will be slightly more upmarket than before. The Datsun redi-GO will continue to be available with two engine options- a 0.8-litre petrol motor with 54 PS and 72 Nm, and a 1.0-litre petrol unit with 67 PS and 91 Nm. Both of the engines will gain BS6-compliance. A 5-speed manual transmission will be standard on both versions, and the bigger engine variant will also offer the choice of a 5-speed AMT.

The outgoing model is priced at Rs. Rs.2.79 lakh to Rs. 4.37 lakh, and is a competitor to Maruti Alto and S-Presso, along with Renault Kwid. Expect a slight bump in price to arise with the facelift model, but not too much; Datsun is expected to undercut its rivals in the price department.
