The new-gen Renault Duster, which will be launched in India next year, is expected to receive some upgrades to conform to the upcoming safety standards. Recently, the SUV has been spied testing on Indian roads.

The next-gen Renault Duster has started to be put on test on Indian roads ahead of its launch in April 2020. The French automaker has already had a new Duster on sale in the global market. However, this model is not going to Indian shores in the near future. Instead, the spy images show an upgraded version of the Duster which complies with the pedestrian safety norms and the BS-VI emission norms.

The test mule, though heavily camouflaged, did indicate some alterations as compared to the current model. In order to help the new vehicle satisfy the pedestrian safety norms, Renault will equip the Duster with a higher bonnet to create sufficient space between the engine parts and the bonnet lid. This makes it safer if the vehicle crashes into a pedestrian.

Other exterior updates will include redesigned bumpers and a new grille. The headlights on the current-gen Duster will be maintained but with LED DRLs. On the side profile, it will get the optional sunroof, which may be equipped on the top variant. New roof rails will also be added to the upgraded SUV’s exterior kit.

As regards the interior, some outstanding updates will consist of a brand-new infotainment setup, more high-quality materials and some features shared with the Capture crossover. Moreover, the new safety features like standard rear parking sensors, a passenger seatbelt warning and speed alert will also be equipped on the car to ensure a safe journey for both the driver and the co-passengers.

As revealed by sources, the 1.5L K9K diesel motor will be continued with only the 110hp variant being upgraded to meet the upcoming BS-VI standards while the lower 85hp variant will be discontinued. The Duster petrol engine will also be upgraded to satisfy the BS-VI standards and will be maintained on the new model. Transmission options are expected to include both manual and automatic gearbox. For the former, the diesel motor will come with a 6-speed MT while the petrol one will be mated to a 5-speed MT unit. For the latter, the diesel variant will be coupled to an AMT while the petrol one will be paired to a CVT unit.

Once launched in India, this upgraded version will be the second facelift of the Duster since its launch in 2012. The previous facelift took place in 2016 with new exterior design and some more features but in this upgrade, “it will feel like a completely new car”. Stay tuned with us on the news about the new-gen Renault Duster and look forward to the launch of the new vehicle which will become both safer and more environmentally friendly in India.
