The 2020 Ford Kuga SUV is scheduled to be revealed on April 2, 2019, prior to its official launch later this year

According to a teaser video released on Twitter by Ford Motors, the 2020 Ford Kuga (new-gen) will take most of the design cues from the latest Ford Focus, which was launched recently. The two models even share the platform with each other. While the heavily camouflaged test mule seen in earlier spy shots did not reveal many details, it did indicate that the Kuga will sport a curvier shape and a bolder stance, different from the boxy shape of the existing model.

The Ford Kuga (known as the Ford Escape in the USA) has been spied testing on the USA roads with a curvier shape.

In terms of the interior, the equipment list is likely to be similar to that on the company’s latest models including the same touchscreen infotainment system mounted on the dash top, the extra driver assistance technologies and the more amber passenger space. As said, the most notable news is that the new Ford Kuga will likely be available with two seating layouts. Other than the five-seater version, a seven-seater one is anticipated to also be added to the lineup at a later stage and be named as the “Grand Kuga”.

The new Kuga SUV is expected to be offered with four motor options: a 1.0-litre Ecoboost, a 1.5-litre petrol, a 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre diesel unit. With a view to introducing electrification to the model, the American automaker is also planning to add at least two hybrid variants to the lineup. In the meantime, the traditional petrol-electric motor combination is also likely to go on sale in particular markets.

The Ford Kuga is expected to be revealed on April 2, 2019 ahead of its launch later this year.

Besides the Ford Kuga, another new SUV will also be revealed and is expected to be named as the Ford Puma. Once launched, it will be priced at a lower level than the Kuga and the Ecosport.

1,51,000 units of the Ford Kuga was sold in 2017, which is slightly less than the sales number in 2018. Last year, the number is more than twice as large as that in 2013 when the launch of the second-gen Kuga took place.

In India, Ford has started to cooperate with Mahindra to manufacture an all-new SUV. It will share the same platform with the new-gen XUV500 and the two SUVs will also be built on the same line at Chakan plant of Mahindra.
