According to ARAI, the fuel economy figures of the new-gen Creta are better than the vehicle it's based on, the Kia Seltos.

The recently launched 2020 Hyundai Creta is all-set to take the Indian Automobile market by a storm. The second-generation Creta comes with different engines than the previous model, now borrowed from the Kia Seltos. Surprisingly, the Hyundai SUV has managed to be slightly more fuel-efficient than its Kia cousin.

The 2020 Hyundai Creta is available with three engine options, same as the Kia Seltos. Here, shall cover each of these powertrain options individually, starting with the diesel motor. The BSVI-compliant 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine generates a maximum power of 115 PS and a peak torque of 250 Nm. This engine returns a fuel economy of 21.4 kmpl in the Creta, while in the Seltos it returns 20.8 kmpl (both figures for the manual gearbox).

Now, let’s shift focus to the petrol-powered versions. The first engine option is the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit. It is capable of producing 115 PS and 144 Nm. In the Creta, this engine is good for a mileage figure of 16.9 kmpl, while in the Seltos, it can go for 16.8 kmpl (both figures for manual variant). The second one is the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol, good for 140 PS and 242 Nm. This motor can stretch a litre of petrol for nearly 16.8 km in Creta and for 16.5 km in the Seltos. As can be seen here, the Creta manages to out-do the Seltos’ fuel economy figures in almost every regard, although by only a small margin.

Other than the engines, the two SUVs also share the same platform underneath. Equipment level is also impressive on both, but Hyundai has managed to offer all latest available tech in its offering, including ‘BlueLink’ car connectivity, which also trumps the Seltos. That said, Kia might also be planning to update its SUV soon, just like it has done for the international model, which would then make the competition between the two even stricter.
