Hyundai i20 is expected to make its entrance to the Indian market by October end. The new-gen Hyundai i20 will come with better interior space, powerful engine options and a host of new features than its outgoing counterpart.
2020 Hyundai i20 is one of the most anticipated launches this festive season. The launch of the Hyundai i20 is expected to take place on October 28, as confirmed by YouTuber - Barodian boy Jatin. Under the new-gen avatar, the Elite i20 is promised to bring new features, fresh styling cues, as well as updated powertrain options. Hyundai i20 has always been known as a very good-looking vehicle. However, Hyundai will take things to the new level with the new-gen model. The next-gen Hyundai i20 will even look more plush and premium. The exterior of the Hyundai i20 is comprehensively updated. Most of the exterior design components like the grille, bonnet, headlamps and LED DRLs are redesigned. In addition, the new-gen model will receive other new design cues like chrome-garnished window line, dual-tone ORVMs, blacked-out B and C pillars, shark fin antenna, UV cut glass and new alloy wheels. Hyundai Elite i20 Turbo, however, will sport a different grille design.
Hyundai i20 will receive a comprehensive generation update this year
On the inside, the new-gen Hyundai i20 will come with a revised dashboard. Moreover, the new-gen premium hatchback will be offered with features like automatic climate control, new steering wheel, rear AC vents, chilled glovebox, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, enhanced audio system, and wireless charging. The updated automatic climate system of the 2020 Hyundai i20 is claimed to increase the cooling speed by 15% than the existing system on the Hyundai i20. The instrument cluster of the India-spec model is not similar to the version available on the global-spec Hyundai i20. Instead, the India-bound Hyundai i20 will get the same unit used on the Hyundai Verna in India. It is unlikely that Hyundai will include the sunroof on the new-gen Elte i20 from the entry-level trim.
The interior of the India-spec Hyundai i20 will be slightly different from the international version
Under the hood, Hyundai i20 will borrow the engine options from the Hyundai Venue. It will come with the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine which is capable of making 82 PS and 114 Nm. Another engine option is the 1.5-litre diesel motor generating 99 Bhp and 240 Nm. While the former will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, the later will come with a 6-speed manual unit.
Upcoming Hyundai i20 will share the engine options with the Hyundai Venue
Apart from these two engine choices, the new Hyundai i20 also comes with a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This engine might be available with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or an iMT unit. Currently, the same engine is capable of making different power and torque outputs on the Grand i10 Nios and Venue. It is not clear which version will make its way to the new-gen Hyundai i20. After the launch of the new-gen Hyundai Elite i20, Hyundai will offer some attractive discount of up to Rs 75,000 for the existing model. The new-gen model, however is expected to be priced in between Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
