The new-gen 2020 Hyundai i20 has been spied without any camouflage on the public roads of South Korean. The upcoming premium hatchback has been already showcased to the European media should make it to our shores later this year.
2020 Hyundai i20 will rub its shoulders with the likes of Tata Altroz and Maruti Baleno
The all-new model looks sporty and is bigger in dimensions as compared to the previous-gen car. It gets LED headlamps and a sporty looking bumper along with a large honeycomb-mesh grille up front. Moreover, the premium hatchback also employs 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels, Z-shaped connected LED taillights, spoiler with integrated stop lamp and a well sculpted rear bumper.
Inside, the new-gen Hyundai i20 offers a roomier and way more premium cabin. It features increased seating space for the rear passengers, more luggage space, new steering wheel with audio and voice controls, a 10.25-inch virtual instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The India-spec version will even offer the BlueLink connected apps suite.
In our market, the new-gen model will be offered with three different BS6-compliant powertrain options- a 1.2-litre MPi mill, a 1.0-litre T-GDi unit and a 1.5-litre U2 CRDi unit. The base petrol engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, while the turbo option will be offered with a 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic choices. The oil-burner will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
One can expect the India-spec 2020 i20 to be shorter in length in order to duck under the 4-metre slab for overall length. Reports suggest that Hyundai is planning to launch the new-gen model in September this year. The upcoming premium hatchback will be likely retailed at a starting price tag of Rs 5.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Once launched, the new-gen Hyundai i20 will compete with the likes of Maruti Baleno and Tata Altroz.
