2020 Hyundai i20 to Share Petrol Engine with Venue

Hyundai Motor is all set to launch the 2020 Hyundai i20 in India by the middle of the calendar year. While the existing Hyundai i20 has been on sale in the country since 2014, the South Korean carmaker will bring a complete model replacement of its Maruti Baleno-rival later this year.

The 2020 Hyundai i20 is expected to get a new 1.0-litre GDI turbo petrol mill that debuted on the Venue and was recently added to the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. This engine is good enough to churn out 100 PS of max power and 172 Nm of peak torque and comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission for the smaller hatch. The ARAI-rated fuel efficiency figure of the engine is 20.3 kmpl.

For the new Hyundai i20, we expect the engine to be almost as fuel-efficient while offering a similar level of performance. The transmission option for the new i20 petrol might be a 6-speed MT and a 7-speed DCT unit. There’s also a BS6-ready 1.5-litre CRDi diesel engine on the cards. It will make 120 PS of power and 172 Nm of torque. This oil-burner is already available on the Venue.

The design of the new-gen i20 will be sleeker, thanks to a sharper grille and new headlamps accentuated by the LED daytime running lamps. The front bumper will also look bolder and will feature larger fog lamps housings and a wider air dam. All this will lead to a more aggressive stance. The low-slung profile of the current Hyundai i20 will be retained though, but the larger dimensions will surely lead to a roomier cabin. New alloy wheels, LED taillight graphics, restyled rear bumper and a fresher design of the tailgate will complete the fresh look of the vehicl

In terms of features, the 2020 Hyundai i20 will come with a larger touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and BlueLink connectivity, digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, electric sunroof and more.
