2020 Hyundai Verna Ready for Launch with a Powerful Turbo Petrol Engine

Earlier this week, Hyundai Motor has released a set of teaser images of the 2020 Verna facelift for the Indian enthusiasts. Bookings for the new Verna has already commenced in India for a token of Rs 25,000. Hyundai even confirmed to us that one of the all-new engine options for the facelifted Verna will be a 1.0-litre T-GDI turbocharged petrol engine, making the new sedan sportier than ever. A recent report also reveals some exclusive details of the sportier Hyundai Verna which is promised to garner much attention from buyers who prefer ‘thrill-filled’ driving.

Reportedly, the 2020 Hyundai Verna 1.0-litre turbo-petrol will come paired with a 7-speed automatic DCT only. Paddle shifters will be available on the model, adding to the sporty appeal of the new sedan.

Besides, the sporty variant of the Verna will feature black chrome embellishments for its signature cascading grille, all-black interior with contrast stitching and red accents, front parking sensors among others.

It is worth noting that the new Verna turbo-petrol will be offered in the top-spec SX(O) trim only, which means the upcoming sedan will be loaded to the gills with interesting features such as a large 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Hyundai’s BlueLink, a 4.2-inch TFT colour display for the semi-digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, sunroof, wireless smartphone charging, Arkamys sound system, hands-free boot operating and so on.

The exact engine specifications for the Verna’s 1.0-litre turbo-petrol mill remain to be known but we do expect it to produce the same figures as the Venue 1.0 turbo-petrol which can put out 120 HP / 172 Nm of torque. Other powertrain option for the new Verna facelift will be 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel, all of which will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. The Verna 1.5-litre petrol will also get a CVT automatic while the 1.5-litre diesel counterpart will be kitted out with a 6-speed automatic torque converter as optional.

With the new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and a DCT option, the 2020 Hyundai Verna facelift is hoped to hog the limelight of the 2020 Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and Volkswagen Vento in the mid-size sedan segment. Prices of the Verna 1.0 Turbo is likely to be in between Rs 13- 14 Lakh (estimated, ex-showroom).
