Recently, Mahindra has confirmed that they will offer the all-new Thar with an automatic gearbox. The new-gen off-roader is expected to hit the Indian shores in the coming months.

As many of you may know, Mahindra & Mahindra has plans to launch the all-new Thar in our market in the coming months. A few days back, one of the company’s executives confirmed that an automatic transmission variant of the new-gen Mahindra Thar is in the works. Last week, Rajesh Jejurikar, Additional Director & Executive Director, Mahindra (Auto & Farm), talked about the 2020 Mahindra Thar, which is internally codenamed as Mahindra Z101. He said-

“An important initiative, and we believe this is a flagship initiative is the launch of the new Thar.”
“The new Thar brings back the core,” he added. Speaking further, below is what he said:
"We believe it will create a new category which brings in the core product of Mahindra, which comes in variety - a wide variety, wide level of refinement, aggregates, automatic, all the works, which will create a new segment."

The new Mahindra Thar automatic has been already spotted testing and Jejurikar’s statement has now confirmed all the speculations about the all-new off-roader. The new-gen Mahindra Thar is expected to feature a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox sourced from Aisin and it will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. The all-new Mahindra Thar will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo diesel unit, which puts out 140 PS of power output. The off-roader will also be powered by a 1.5-litre mStallion turbocharged gasoline motor that produces 160 PS of maximum power.
