2020 Mahindra Thar Imagined In An Exclusive Rendering

Mahindra is gearing up to launch a new generation of the Mahindra Thar. Last week, the new-gen 2020 Mahindra Thar was spied wearing a new top-hat, thereby marking some revelations of the new design of the vehicle. Based on the plenty of spy pics that have surfaced on the Internet, a digital artist has illustrated the 2020 Mahindra Thar SUV in a speculative rendering, thereby giving us an idea of how the new model could look like.

As can be seen in the rendered image, the 2020 Mahindra Thar will feature a lot of different design cues but still manage to retain its classic look. A sleeker grille with tweaked front bumper and headlamps will make their way to the car’s front fascia while lower-placed door handles will offer more convenient usage. The all-rounded off-roader appears with a smaller canopy that comes in accordance with a higher-positioned rear deck, albeit marginally. Other styling highlights should include a rising roofline that could remind us of the decade-old Mahindra Invader, bolder fenders at both front and rear and the rounded beltline probably inspired by the Land Rover Defender.

Stepping inside, the 2020 Mahindra Thar features a totally revised dashboard. It will come with an integrated touchscreen infotainment system with central AC vents at a lower position, a new multi-information display sitting between the tachometer and speedometer as well as a Mahindra TUV300-inspired multifunctional steering.

In the rendering, the all-new Thar rolls out a lot of distinctive design cues compared to the current-gen version.

Speaking of safety, the new-generation 2020 Mahindra Thar will be stellar enough to make it comply with the stringent BNVSAP safety standards. Having said that, it will sport enough essential safety features including anti-lock braking system, electronic braking distribution, rear parking sensors, speed alert, driver and co-driver seat belt reminder and airbags, etc.

The largest change in the all-new Thar should stand under the bonnet. Allegedly, the upcoming SUV will exploit the power from an all-new 2.0-litre diesel engine option producing 140 hp of max power and 300 Nm of peak torque. The mill will more likely come coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard while it’s yet to know if it comes with an automatic unit at a later stage.

The official unveiling is expected to happen by late 2019 or at 2020 Auto Expo. Safety rules compliance and feature updates will hike up the price of the new-gen model to a marginal level. Estimated pricing range of the new Thar stands at around Rs 6.72- 9.4 Lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi).
