New-gen Mahindra Thar Spied Testing On Indian Roads

Thanks to the spy images appearing online, we know that Mahindra, the home-grown automaker, has been working overtime to develop the new-gen Mahindra Thar. The SUV has been showcased at the Auto Expo 2020; however, under heavy camouflage. Earlier, the heavily camouflaged Thar has also been spotted testing, revealing some aesthetic upgrades. Expected to be introduced to India later this year, the SUV has recently been caught testing again in India.

Despite getting some new features, the new Mahindra Thar will keep its boxy design intact.

As seen in the latest multimedia, the next-gen Mahindra Thar sports new 5-spoke alloy rims, which contributes to its ruggedness.  The new SUV will maintain the boxy body with soft roof and hard roof versions. Some of the outstanding exterior features of the SUV include classic circular headlights with LED DRLs, large fenders with indicators, spare wheel mounted on the tailgate and newly-designed taillights.

The interior of the new Thar will also receive extensive upgrades with a touchscreen infotainment system on the high-spec variants, coloured MID, automatic climate control and new seat coverings with high-quality seats, etc. In the safety front, the Mahindra Thar is equipped with features like dual front airbags, speed alert system and rear parking sensors, etc. Overall, the cabin will be a lot more plush and would have a car-like feel, 

The 2020 Thar will be available with both petrol and diesel options. While the former will be a 2.0-litre TGDi turbocharged petrol mStallion motor, the latter will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel unit. The new gasoline burner will also serve as the power source for the new-gen Mahindra Scorpio and XUV500.

Also, the new model will be the first of the trio of next generation model that the carmaker has planned for this year. The all-new Thar will be followed by the new-gen Scorpio this year, while the second generation of the Mahindra XUV500 will be introduced in 2021.
