Yesterday, the next-generation Mahindra Thar has been spotted running fast on the Indian roads ahead of its debut. Mahindra is gearing up for the launch of the new Thar by the year-end of 2019 or in early 2020.

India’s largest UV maker, Mahindra & Mahindra, is working on several all-new cars for our market. With the imminent implementation of the new stringent BNVSAP safety and BSVI emission norms, the home-grown carmaker is all set to introduce new generations of Mahindra Thar, Mahindra XUV500 and Mahindra Scorpio in the country. In recent months, the Mahindra Thar, which is known as an iconic off-road focused SUV in the Indian market, has been caught testing with heavy camouflage quite often on the public roads, hinting at the cosmetic details of the vehicle.

The 2020 Mahindra Thar is preparing to enter the domestic market in late 2019 or early 2020.

The next generation of Mahindra Thar will come with a proportional size when compared to the current-gen model that has been indulged quite clearly through the latest set of spy shots. The all-new SUV will be underpinned on the Mahindra Scorpio and TUV300’s platform but it will be heavily modified to maintain the distinctive stellar capability of the vehicle. With an increase in dimensions, the 2020 Mahindra Thar will provide a more comfortable generous space on the inside compared to that of its predecessor. More features are anticipated to come as well. It’s worth noting that the current-gen Thar is still not considered a vehicle for daily commutes owing to the shortage of features and comfort. That said, the refreshed model is expected to get various additional modern features, comprising cruise control, touchscreen infotainment system, multi-information display, airbags, for-ward racing rear seat and much more.

The next generation of Mahindra Thar is expected to be a more comfortable SUV and come with BSVI-ready powertrain system.

The upcoming Thar is going to come as a three-door SUV with optional soft top and hard top roof version. Particularly, the hard top variant which was spotted undergoing testing earlier will carry a removable hardtop roof or in other words, the roof could be removed if need be.

The latest spy images reveal two test mules plying on the roads, one of which is kitted out with a special device to measure the emission at the rear. It shows that there will be an all-new 2.0-litre BSVI-compliant engine option available on the new imminent SUV. It is reported that this mill will also power some next-generation models in the market comprising the new-gen Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra XUV500 and a brand new Ford SUV in the pipeline. The acclaimed 4WD system with a low-ratio transfer case will remain untouched on the all-new Thar as well.
