The highly-anticipated next-gen Mahindra Thar will make its public debut at the upcoming Delhi Auto Expo. The launch has been confirmed for April 2020.

Mahindra & Mahindra is gearing up for the introduction of the new-gen Thar in the Indian market next year. Before the launch, the carmaker has started massive testing campaigns for all-new Thar and its test mules have been caught on cam multiple times. Some days back, the second-gen Mahindra was spotted on test again on Nilgiri Hills, giving us further details through the clearest spy shots.

The second-generation Mahindra Thar was spotted testing on the roads again before the local debut.

As of now, we’re pretty sure that Mahindra has been revised massively both inside and out of the new-gen Thar for a fresher look. The upcoming Mahindra Thar will be bigger than the current-gen model for improving its overall footprint. Besides, larger dimensions also mean that the all-new Thar will get a roomier interior space for the occupants.

Visually, the second generation of the Mahindra Thar might adopt an evolutionary design language with redesigned front bumper and seven-slot front grille, circular headlamps, flared wheel arches boxy cabin along with the options of a soft-top or hardtop. We expect the interior of the SUV to receive serious updates for more convenient usability and a sophisticated look as well. Interestingly, what is known until now is that the new-gen Thar could get the facing third row of seats. Overall, though being heavily camouflaged on every test mule, the 2020 Thar looks certainly more upmarket than the outgoing model, all the ways to improve the athletic stance of the off-roader.

The new-gen Thar will carry bigger proportions compared to its predecessors while the powertrain will be BSVI compliant.

The engine lineup of the 2020 Mahindra Thar will receive comprehensive revisions due to the implementation of stricter BSVI emission norms. It is likely to use a newly-developed BSVI 2.0-litre diesel engine that should be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The new mill is expected to make more power and torque than the outgoing powertrain option. The 4WD system replete with a low-ratio transfer case is reported to be retained from the previous-gen model as well.
