The launch of new-gen 2020 Mahindra Thar is just around the corner. The all-new model will be a more comfort-oriented SUV than its predecessor

Mahindra and Mahindra Limited have will launch the new-gen Thar in the Indian market as soon as the countrywide lockout lifts. Earlier, the all-new off-roader was scheduled to hit the car market in April last year but got delayed due to the ongoing unfavourable situation.

In a recent interview, Mr Veejay Ram Nakra, CEO-Automotive Business, Mahindra and Mahindra said, "Thar is around the corner. I guess it's a matter of time when we will officially open it up for bookings. I think there are far more important matters at hand right now, to look at, to ensure that we get those right. Once we have all of that under our belt, we will be ready to launch and talk to you specifically a bit more on the launch of Thar. Yes, it's around the corner, and out of our next launch, that's clearly going to be the first launch."

The new-gen model will be a more comfort-oriented SUV than being a hardcore off-roader. By making the Thar more comfortable, the SUV will be able to cater to a wide range of audience because people can rely on the all-new off-roader for everyday commutes. The next-gen Thar will be offered with a hardtop roof. The off-roader will continue to retain its boxy look. Outside, the SUV will get conventional 7-slat grille, fender-mounted side indicators, flat bonnet, conventional round headlamps and brick-shaped taillights.
