Next-gen 2020 Mahindra XUV500 will have its global debut at 2020 Auto Expo. It is reported to keep a new 180 hp 2.0-litre diesel engine that will comply with the stricter BSVI emission standards.

The first member in the company’s monocoque mid-size SUV family, the XUV500 is already out there, in the Indian market. With plenty of segment-leading features and a mighty powertrain in its hood, the Mahindra XUV500 has been a red-hot model in the segment from the beginning. In recent days, Mahindra & Mahindra is toying with the idea of bringing a new lease of life to the XUV500 with a new generation in India, suggests a report from Gaadiwaadi.

The all-new Mahindra XUV500 SUV will more likely to unveil in India sometime in 2020.

First entered India in September 2011, Mahindra’s first monocoque SUV has got more than seven years of presence. The first-gen SUV saw two mid-cycle makeovers in its lifetime, one was in May 2015 and the other was in April 2018. This time around, the second-gen model is alleged to carry a whole new structural architecture which is said to be heavily influenced by the world-renowned Italian Pininfarina design house, Mahindra’s Michigan-based Technical Centre as well as the company’s local design centres in the country. The new platform, says, will give the all-new XUV500 bigger proportions, higher ground clearance and a larger inside-vehicle space. It will adopt the third row of seat while the cargo capacity will be extended further for the enhanced convenience and practicality.

There’s are a dozen of rumours emerged from time to time saying about the next-generation XUV500 due for debut sometime down the line. That said, the new premium SUV will be a more competent off-roading athlete in the segment much more than the preceding generation, which implies the carmaker’s high determination to defeat its adversaries in the domestic battle. For the sake of that, Mahindra might develop a brand new more potent 2.0-litre diesel engine under the XUV500’s bonnet to take the place of the existing 2.2-litre motor option. As for the regulatory BSVI emission norms, this type of burner should churn out as much as 180 hp of the maximum power output.
