Some say the models and their gorgeous outfits were the biggest attraction of Lakme Fashion Week 2020. That may be true, but day-zero of the event had a guest appearance by the new Maruti Ignis facelift.

Lakme Fashion Week is a biannual fashion event, and one of the biggest in India. The latest iteration of the event unfolded at JioWorld Gardens, Mumbai. Of course, we at IndianAuto have very little knowledge in the world of fashion, but one of the sponsors managed to pique our interest. Not the title sponsor, but NEXA, Maruti Suzuki’s premium car dealership chain. Maruti had showcased the new Ignis facelift at the event during the opening of the event, which managed to captivate the crowd even before the runway had opened.

Promoting the Ignis facelift is a smart move by Maruti, especially after the brilliant sales success the car had in February 2020. The Ignis had always been a slow seller, over-shadowed by its siblings like the Swift and WagonR. Now though, it seems like Maruti has gained a decent momentum with the latest model, and to maintain it, necessary steps had to be taken. To put things in perspective, the Year-on-Year sales growth of the Ignis is around 123%, which is a significant increment.

Compared to other hatchbacks in Marutis’ line-up, the Ignis had been a below-average performer, unable to achieve good sales numbers. That said, the facelift model of the car has drastically changed the sales of the hatchback as the carmaker managed to retail around 2,912 units of Ignis facelift in India in February 2020. Maruti Ignis has made a positive growth of 123%. The carmaker sold around 1,303 units of the hatchback in the same month last year. The increase in sales of Ignis shows positive response received by the facelift model.

The styling of the Ignis had always been polarising, but thankfully the car is a little more palatable now. It sports a lot of SUV-inspired details, like a boxy silhouette, high bonnet, squarish front and rear bumpers, faux skid plate at the front and rear, and a pair of longitudinal roof-rails. Apart from that, the car also features chrome embellishments in front-grille, which adds a premium touch to the overall look. The technological side of things is also well handled. The car gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, push-button start/stop, and LED DRLs.
