New Mercedes AMG GLA 45 Breaks Cover

The Mercedes GLA is the latest model to come with the Affalterbach’s M139 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor to join the A45 and CLA 45 in the performance lineup. The standard-spec GLA 45 generates 387 HP whereas the top-spec S variant can produce 421 HP (witnessing extra 34 HP), which makes it the most powerful compact crossover ever. The standard model is claimed to accelerate from a standstill to 100 kmph in 4.4 seconds while the S one can do the same thing in only 4.3 seconds.  The standard variant’s speed limiter is absent in the S, making the top speed decrease from 270 kmph in the latter to 250 kmph in the former.

The GLA 45 sets itself apart from the normal GLA by performance-oriented features which include power domes in the bonnet, prominent air intakes and flared wheel arches. The GLA 45 comes with a variable 4WD system which uses torque vectoring tech to spread different power amounts to each rear wheel, depending on driving situations. Both of the two wheels are packed with their own powered multi-disc clutch¸ enabling each to be individually disengaged from its driveshaft. An 8-speed DCT unit has been configured to help the car spontaneously accelerate at all speeds.

The AMG GLA 45 also comes with a bespoke AMG suspension system which is claimed to offer a better rolling refinement over the outgoing model. Moreover, the car also gets more responsive steering and decreased torque steer under acceleration. The crossover is available with a multitude of driving modes: Race Start, Eco Mode, etc.

The interior is equipped with a bespoke driving wheel with drive modes control and modifiable shortcut buttons, a digital instrument cluster with a special sports view and sports bucket seats. Besides this crossover, the second-gen GLA SUV has also been recently showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 and is expected to launch in the latter half of 2020.
