Nissan will soon be updating the Kicks with a new turbocharged petrol engine. With the new engine, Kicks will make the Seltos's 1.4L 140 PS motor feel average.

Nissan Kicks is one of the best-handling C-SUVs currently on sale in the country. It is also the quirkiest one of the lot in terms of its looks but does stand apart from the crowd with its unique styling. It was off the shelf for some time now as the new emission norms are in place and it still had BS-4 compliant engines. However, now Nissan has confirmed that an updated Kicks is on the cards. It will go on sale soon and will de-throne the 140 PS Seltos 1.4 Turbo as the most-powerful SUV of the segment. Nissan will be updating the Kicks with a new turbo-petrol engine, which Renault showcased with the Duster at the 2020 Auto Expo.

Nissan Kicks with the new turbo-petrol motor will become the most-powerful SUV in its class.

The Kicks will get the HR13 DDT 1.3L four-cylinder, turbocharged, petrol engine that belts out a peak power output of 156 PS and a max. torque of 254 Nm. It will come mated to a CVT automatic. Nissan has not confirmed the availability of the stick shift yet. The new HR13 motor has been co-developed by Mercedes-Benz and Nissan-Renault-Mitsubishi alliance. Therefore it will do duties on a lot of cars around the world. Also, expect it to be the most refined and reliable turbo-petrol unit in its class. It appears as an exciting motor on paper, thus we are excited as well to drive Kicks with this motor soon.

Nissan Kicks feature a smartly laid-out dashboard with use of good quality materials all around.

Nissan claims that apart from being a powerful motor, the HR13 mill will also be a fuel-efficient one. It uses the same cylinder coating as the GT-R’s engine to reduce the friction in the cylinder. The X-Tronic CVT, on the other hand, will be an eight-step setup. It will have a dedicated M mode, which will offer the leverage to manually select the steps.
