2020 Toyota Camry BS6 Launched in India, Gets Costlier By Rs 93,000

Back in early 2019, Toyota KIrloskar Motor (TKM) introduced the latest-gen Camry Hybrid in India at an introductory price of Rs 36.95 Lakh (ex-showroom). And now, the local subsidiary of the Japanese carmaker has announced the launch of the updated, BS6, version of its D2-segment sedan. Prices of the BS6 Toyota Camry are higher than the outgoing version by Rs 93,000, which means the new 2020 Toyota Camry now goes on sale at a price of Rs 37.88 Lakh onwards (ex-showroom).

Toyota Camry has always scored well in terms of features and same is the case with the BS6 model. The new sedan carries forward the equipment list of the previous model, which means bits like an electric sunroof, a touchscreen display for the infotainment unit with navigation, powered & ventilated front seats, a 9-speaker JBL premium sound system, a HUD, power steering, three-zone automatic climate control, cruise control and more continue to be on offer.

2020 Toyota Camry retains the petrol-hybrid powertrain system, albeit, in an updated, BS6-compliant, format. It features a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that comes paired with an electric motor to churn out a combined power output of 218 PS. Specifically, the petrol burner can produce 178 PS/ 218 Nm while the electric motor generates a max power of 120 PS and 202 Nm of max torque.

The only transmission option for the BS6 Camry comprises of a CVT unit. The D2-segment sedan is capable of driving in pure ICE mode, electric mode or both. Besides, there are three driving modes offered with the Camry, including Eco, Normal and Power.

On the safety front, the 2020 Toyota Camry is offered with 9 airbags, ABS, EBD & ESC, rear parking sensors and camera, a tyre-pressure monitoring system along with an electric parking brake. The BS6 Camry models are available with seven body paint options, namely Platinum White, Red Mica, Silver Metallic, Phantom Brown, Graphite Metallic alongside two shades of black – Attitude Black and Burning Black. While seeing no immediate rival from any carmaker in the Indian market, the Toyota Camry locks horn with the likes of Skoda Superb as both the sedans retail in the same price bracket.
