Mahindra & Mahindra is ready to launch the new-gen Thar in October. After the launch of this off-road SUV, Mahindra plans to roll out the new Mahindra XUV500 and the Scorpio next year.

It is confirmed by Mahindra that the new-gen version of the XUV500 and Scorpio will go on sale in October alongside the existing models. Considering the customers’ strong interest in the outgoing models, the homegrown car manufacturer has decided not to discontinue these models. It is expected that by keeping the current models, Mahindra can cater to a wider customer band.

Both of the upcoming new-gen models will come with comprehensive cosmetic and mechanic updates. Mahindra XUV500 will be the first car to go on sale. Mahindra XUV500’s exterior looks boxier with an upright front face and slimmer door panels. On the front end, the new SUV features a signature grille, revised headlights, and vertically-put DRLs. The LED application can be found on the headlights and DRLs of the top-spec variants. On the side profile, there are flush-fitting door handles in place of the traditional “cheetah claw” units.

On the other hand, new-gen Mahindra Scorpio will enter the market during the Q2 2021, following the launch of the XUV500. The new Scorpio is built on an updated ladder frame chassis. From the available images of upcoming Scorpio, we know that it will come with an upright silhouette as well as bolder character lines across the body. It seems that the new exterior of the Scorpio will be more robust and distinguished from the existing model. On the inside, this new SUV will borrow features from the Marazzo MPV, for example, the gear knob, instrument cluster, steering wheel, and control stalks.

Currently, Mahindra Scorpio is sold exclusively with a BSVI 2.2-litre diesel engine that generates 140 Bhp. It is expected that the new-generation model will bring along a new petrol engine option. The new petrol engine is a 2.0-litre petrol engine (190 Bp). Automatic and manual options will also be on offer.
