Volkswagen confirmed that the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun will be revealed on March 31. The official launch date of this model is expected to take place around the festive season.

A few days ago, Skoda has unveiled the Kushaq for the global and the domestic market. Following the reveal of the Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen India announced that the Taigun will have its world premiere on March 31, 2021. Last year, VW India brought the Taigun to the Auto Expo 2020 under the production-ready form. It is expected that the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun will look similar to the version on display at last year’s car expo. Ahead of the official debut, let’s check through all the details of this model that we have known by far.

Similar to the Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun will be underpinned by the same MQB-A0-In architecture developed specifically for the Indian market. This architecture with a high level of localization assures that the price of the Taigun will be kept in check. It also suggests that the Taigun will have somewhat similar dimensions to the Skoda Kushaq. It is expected that Taigun will measure around 4.2 meters in length and gets a 2.6-meter wheelbase.

In terms of design, Volkswagen Taigun will borrow many design elements from the international-spec T-Cross. When entering the Indian market, Volkswagen will adjust the exterior by adding more chrome accents to fit the customer’s taste. However, it still remains the boxy silhouette with sharp and lean character lines. Alongside the chrome applique for a more mature look, Volkswagen Taigun also gets a heavy dose of body cladding.

For the interior, the Volkswagen Taigun keeps the dashboard design identical to the Volkswagen T-Roc's unit. Moreover, the Taigun will also come with premium fits and finish for the interior with high-quality materials, which is expected of a European car. Moreover, Taigun will also come with a host of high-tech features including a virtual digital instrument cluster and the latest infotainment touchscreen unit with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. To add some spice to the interior design, the dashboard is expected to get funky colour inserts. The Volkswagen Taigun will get a panoramic sunroof which will light up interior space.

About the powertrain, the Taigun will come with two choices of engines, a 1.0-litre TSI unit and a 1.5-litre TSI unit. Both of them are petrol and can be found in other VW’s existing models. While the former is capable of generating 110hp and 175Nm, the latter is good for 150hp and 250Nm. A 6-speed manual gearbox is offered as standard for both engines. However, the 1.5-litre unit will get an additional dual-clutch automatic gearbox. At launch, Volkswagen Taigun is expected to be priced from Rs 10 lakh. It will come up against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Nissan Kicks.
