Maruti is going to launch 6 models in 2019, including the new-gen Wagon R and all-new Ertiga Cross.

It is not an exaggeration to say that every model that Maruti makes would be in the top-selling list regardless of what segment it enters. So there is a lot to looking forward in 2019 as Maruti has planned to launch at least six new models in 2019.

1. Maruti Suzuki WagonR

The WagonR is one of the most important products of Maruti. With the affordable price and high practicality, WagonR is Indian’s favourite choice of hatchbacks and it has always one of the best-selling cars in the segment. In the upcoming year, it is going to have the generation updates that will make the WagonR even more appealing and relevant.

The India-spec WagonR will take clues from the version sold in the Japanese market. However, when coming to the India market, the WagonR will get twisted a bit to fit the taste of Indian customers. It is expected that the new WagonR will look completely different than the ongoing version. It will have the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine from the current models.

Expected launch: First quarter 2019

2. Maruti Suzuki S-Cross

In 2019, the S-Cross will get the facelift updates. Mechanically, this crossover will come with a 1.3-litre diesel engine. In addition, this unit will come with the SHVS mild hybrid system. This system derived from Toyota and is transferred to Maruti under the partnership between the two companies.

On the other hand, the petrol version is powered by the all-new 1.5-litre engine. The engine is developed in-house by Maruti and is able to make 104bhp and 138Nm. The transmission duty is done by a 5-speed manual unit. A four-speed automatic transmission might be offered on the S-Cross as well.

Expected launch: Mid 2019

3. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Cross

In 2018, the new-gen Ertiga has been introduced to the India market. And the next year, 2019, we will get to see the crossover version of this MPV. The international crossover has been revealed. On this version, the Ertiga cross gets plastic cladding on the side skirts and front bumper and higher ground clearance, making it look distinctively crossover. On the mechanic front, it is likely that Maruti will make use of the engine of the current Ertiga. Just like the Ertiga, this crossover is likely to sit on the premium range.

4. Maruti Toyota Corolla

Maruti has joined with the Toyota in a partnership program that will allow the two companies to share experiences and help each other in developing the future product. On the Maruti side, it will help Toyota by letting some models like Brezza, Baleno to be rebadged and sold at Toyota’s dealership. On the other hand, Toyota with its rich experiences in building a hybrid engine will send their expert to advising Maruti in developing its electric products, as well as introducing its rebadged version of the Toyota car. One of the Toyota products that will go under the name of Maruti is the Maruti Toyota Corolla. To mark its own Maruti will bring in both interior and exterior changes to this new car.

The Corolla is now available with petrol and diesel engine and it seems that Maruti will take the same road.

Expected launch: Mid 2019

5. Maruti Suzuki Swift RS

Maruti Suzuki Swift is of Maruti’s most successful models. The performance version of the Swift, the Swift RS, was due to be launched at the time the all-new Swift was rolled out. However, the new Swift RS will be introduced in 2019.

It is expected that the India-bounded Swift RS will be a tad different as what we see on the global version. It is likely that the performance Swift will feature the same 1.0-litre turbocharged engine offered on Baleno RS.

Expected launch: First half 2019

6. Maruti Suzuki Y1K

Maruti is planning on a micro SUV that will slot under the Maruti Vitara Brezza on Maruti’s line-up. Codenamed as Y1K, this car will be based on the Concept Future S. As the SUV segment is on the rise, it is a good move that Maruti takes steps to enter the compact SUV segment.

At launch, this car will take on the likes of Mahindra KUV 100. It is expected that Maruti will bring in the 660cc engine that makes the maximum of 51 PS and a peak torque of 63 Nm. 5-speed manual transmission and an AMT automatic transmission will take the transmission duty.
