Mahindra, the domestic Indian automaker, is going to launch the XUV700 in late 2018. In this article, we have collected things you might not but should know about this forthcoming SUV.

1. Mahindra XUV700’s launch has been postponed

At first, the Mahindra XUV700 had been projected to be released into the Indian auto market on October 9. However, this launch has been postponed until late October, or November due to several reasons. The first one is that the dealers demand a longer time between the two launches (the Marazzo was launched on Sep 3). Secondly, two car events are going to happen on that day in India. So what the Indian auto customers can do now is to continue to wait for the launch of this upcoming SUV.

2. Mahindra XUV700 is not originally developed by Mahindra

The forthcoming SUV700 which India auto customers have been longing for is only a version which has been rebadged from the SsangYong Rexton G4, which was showcased at the 2018 Delhi auto expo. The Indian domestic automaker will use the brand “Mahindra” to launch the SUV in India. Actually, SsangYong is a business company owned by Mahindra and is located in South Korea. It has also offered the Rexton in the Indian auto market. Due to the unpopularity of the brand name, Mahindra intends to release a rebadged version of this product to attach a greater appeal to it.

3. Mahindra XUV700 will sport the most luxurious features

Expected to be the most high-priced and the best car ever produced by Mahindra, the XUV700 is believed to be possibly equipped with the most advanced and luxurious features.

An attractive appearance

To rival against the tough competitors in the Indian teeming SUV segment, the domestic automaker has equipped the XUV700 exterior with a wide range of luxurious features including projector HID headlamps, supervision cluster, LED cornering lamps, big 20-inch wheels, etc.

A cabin with cutting-edge features

That’s about the exterior, what about the interior? The answer is the same. To effectively compete in the highly competitive SUV segment in India, the XUV700 interior will be packed with some top-notch features. Wooden inserts will be added to the dashboards and leather trims will be attached to the door. The seats will sport diamond stitch pattern. All of these contribute to the luxurious cabin of the vehicle.

Moreover, such features as an infotainment system with touchscreen display, heated and ventilated seats, a driving seat which can be electrically adjusted in eight ways, passenger seats which can be adjusted in six ways and electric tailgate will also be added to uplift the interior of the XUV700.

A full kit of safety features

Government policies and the consideration for customers’ safety of automakers themselves have shifted car manufacturers to equip their vehicle with a full kit of both active and safety features: 9 airbags on the top-spec variant and standard ABS with EBD, ESP, hill start and hill descent assist, ARP, etc. Some of the safety features on the global model such as forward collision alert, high beam assist, automatic emergency braking, nevertheless, are not likely to be available with the Indian model.

4. Mahindra XUV700 will get an automatic transmission across all variants

The Mahindra XUV700 will receive power from a 2.2-litre diesel engine which is paired with a 7-speed automatic gearbox. The engine can churn out 179 Bhp of max power and 420 Nm of peak torque. It is expected that all the XUV700 variants will be available with only the automatic gearbox.

5. Mahindra XUV700 will not be a good off-roader.

Despite the robust appearance, the car is not likely to be effective when going off road. The reason is that the low-ratio transfer case, which is indispensable for vehicles when travelling on hard terrain, is absent on the SUV700. The vehicle will be useful when travelling on less difficult terrains like slippery ones (slush and ice) but might be not efficient to travel on roads with enormous obstacles such as deep ruts or steep climbs.

6. Mahindra XUV700 will be developed in Chakan

As it originates from SsangYong model, the XUV700 will be imported to India from SsangYong's South Korea Plant through the Completely Knocked Down (CKD) route. Then once coming to India, it will be put together in Chakan. By this way, Mahindra can ensure the tax to be minimal and the XUV700 to have the most competitive price as possible to compete against other rivals in the same segment.

7. Mahindra XUV700 is a real value for money

With a long list of modern features, the introductory price across all the variants of the XUV700 is indeed reasonable compared with its rivals, which is also a signature personality of Mahindra. The low-spec variant of the vehicle is likely to cost about Rs. 20 lakh and up to 25 Rs lakhs for the high-spec one, almost Rs. 4 lakh less than the Toyota Fortuner. Mahindra is intending to sell the XUV700 with a reasonable price to increase its competitiveness with other car brands. Although it is the most high-priced car model of the Indian domestic automaker, it will offer the features which deserve the high price.
