All-New Honda City To Have Same Ground Clearance And Wheelbase As Before

Honda City is set to receive a generation change soon in the Indian market. The newer model has been confirmed to be bigger than the current generation. It shall be longer and wider but lower as well. Also, it has been confirmed that the wheelbase and ground clearance will remain the same as before.

Honda Cars India Limited has recently revealed the spec sheet of the all-new 2020 Honda City. The upcoming Honda sedan will be 4,549 mm in length, 1,748 mm in width, 1,489 mm in height. Its wheelbase will be 2,600 mm and the ground clearance will be 165 mm. As for the current generation City, it has a length of 4,440 mm, a width of 1,695 mm, and a height of 1,495 mm. As mentioned before, the ground clearance and wheelbase are the same in the older and newer model, i.e., 2,600 mm and 165 mm, respectively.

Other than the dimensions, the design of the vehicle will also change. The City will now feature the same chrome “eyebrow” design at the front end as its siblings, Amaze, Civic, and Accord. Even the interior layout will be different. Instead of the driver-centric design, the new car takes a more conservative approach. In terms of engine options, Honda will offer s 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol mill and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel motor. The former can generate 121 PS and 145 Nm, while the latter is good for 100 PS and 200 Nm. These are the same powerplants as the previous generation, slightly reworked for the new model. A 6-speed manual transmission is available as standard, while the petrol variants can also be had with a CVT.

Carmakers tend to improve their cars by making certain necessary changes with every subsequent generation of said cars. There are, however, some cars that do not require any major change, but only minor ones. With the new generation Honda City, we see the latter case. The City was quite a brilliant vehicle in itself, and did not require any problems as such. In fact, reports suggest that the older model shall continue to remain on sale alongside the next generation, perhaps as the more affordable, entry-level.
