All-New Honda City Will Be Only 5-Star(A-NCAP) Rated C2-Sedan

With a 5-star ASEAN-NCAP crash test rating, all-new Honda City will be the only 5-star C2-segment to go on sale in India.

Honda is betting big on the new-gen City. The carmaker has been enjoying the success of the City brand since long in the country. The plan is to continue doing so with the new-gen City as well. To do so, Honda will be launching the City with the entire arsenal loaded in its backpack. Since the safety ratings have been gaining a lot of attention these days, Honda is trying to pull a rabbit out of its hat. As the new-gen City will be the only car in its segment to boast of a 5-star crash test rating. However, the new-gen City has been tested at the ASEAN-NCAP's testbed and not at the Global-NCAP’s testbed.

To achieve this 5-star crash test rating; Honda has fitted in a lot of safety equipment on the new-gen City. It gets 6 airbags in total, 2 on the dashboard, 2 on the seats, and the remaining 2 are the curtain airbags. Also, the new City gets a host of electronic intervention systems such as Vehicle Stability Assist, Agile Handling Assist, Hill Start Assist, TPMS, LaneWatch camera, and ABS with EBD. It will also come with 2 ISOFIX child seat mounts for the rear seats, 3 point seatbelts for all-5 seats, and emergency stop signal as standard.

The new-gen City is underpinned by a new platform that is made of ultra-high tensile steel. This grade of steel possesses formability of up to 980 MPa. Also, Honda has plonked in a slew of telematics aids in the new City, via which the car will be able to send auto-crash notifications for emergency assistance. The notification will also include the geographical coordinates of the vehicle.

The new-gen City is all set to be launched in July this year. It is longer and wider than the outgoing City but gets the same wheelbase as before. The car will be offered with 2 engine options – 1.5L petrol and 1.5L diesel. The former is capable of pushing out 121 PS of peak power and 145 Nm of peak torque, while the latter’s peak power and torque output stand at 100 PS and 200 Nm, respectively.
