All-New Mahindra XUV500 Previewed by an open-top electric sportscar | Auto Expo 2020
The first-gen Mahindra XUV500 made its debut back in 2011. The first-gen model will be ten years old by the time it is replaced by the second-gen version. The upcoming new XUV500 will continue to sport the monocoque architecture. Nonetheless, it will employ a different platform. With regard to the design, the all-new Mahindra XUV500 will be designed in line with the Mahindra Funster concept introduced at the Auto Expo 2020 which happened earlier this year.
About the engine, the 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will employ 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel engine. Supposedly, the petrol engine will be the mStallion T-GDi motor which was also on display at the Auto Expo 2020. This engine is strong enough to put out a maximum power of 190 PS and a maximum torque of 380 Nm. On the other hand, the diesel engine is likely to generate a top power of 185 PS. While the engine range will be replaced entirely, the transmission options remain the same. It will continue with two options of 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The diesel version seems to get a four-wheel-drive system as an option.
The 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine is likely to be offered on the new Mahindra XUV500
Mahindra has been cooperating with Ford to develop a connectivity technology for the new-gen Mahindra XUV500. Following the launch of the Mahindra XUV500, Ford C-SUV based on the Mahindra XUV500 will be launched. Around the same time Mahindra XUV500 is launched, the market will also welcome several new cars to the segment, including the MG Hector Plus, Tata Gravitas and Jeep Low D SUV.
